We are excited to share some big news! 🥳

We are thrilled to have been awarded a Commonwealth Bank Staff Foundation Community Grant. This grant will help support the impactful work we do in the community, including an exciting exhibition our customers are currently working on.

Life Skills and Work and Study customers from North Rocks and Blacktown are getting creative and working on their pieces for this major showcase, which will be on display in October at Mercure Parramatta.

As you can see, their talent is undeniable.

A huge thank you to the CommBank staff who participate in Workplace Giving. Your support made this grant possible.

Anzac Day is a time for us all to recognise those who have served our country in all conflicts, wars and peace operations since 1914.

One of the many who served our country was Sir John Northcott, an Anzac who fought at Gallipoli in 1915. As a young captain with the 12th Battalion, he was shot before reaching the shore at Anzac Cove and was later found badly wounded but alive. He survived and went on to serve his country for many years.

Sir John rose through the ranks of the Australian Army and later became the first Australian born Governor of New South Wales. He was widely respected and known for travelling across the state to meet people in communities large and small.

Sir John was a strong supporter of the NSW Society for Crippled Children, taking an active interest in our work both during and after his time as Governor. In 2004 we changed our name to Northcott, in his honour.

On Anzac Day, we remember Sir John Northcott’s service and legacy, and honour all who have served.

Lest we forget.

Attending a playgroup for the first time can be daunting for parents, especially when you’re not sure what to expect. For dad Luke, it was his daughter Edith who showed him the ropes when he went along with her for the first time.

“It gives us a different perspective on our child’s development and needs,” he says. “And when playgroup is on break, we definitely hear about it at home!”

Hannah and Tyra are helping reshape how disability research is done. As both Northcott customers and Community Research Partners, they’ve brought lived experience, insight and leadership to the groundbreaking Preventing Everyday Harm project.

In March, the research outcomes were launched on the Preventing Everyday Harm website, sharing key findings and practical tools in accessible formats for people with disability, families, workers and providers.

The project was proudly celebrated yesterday at Northcott Parramatta, highlighting the meaningful contributions of researchers with lived experience, what the research uncovered about everyday harms and how they can be prevented.

Delivered in partnership with Flinders University and UNSW, the project explores moments of harm experienced by people with disability in everyday settings and ways to recognise and prevent them into the future.

Thank you to everyone who attended, including Donna Davis MP, Member for Parramatta. A special thank you to our wonderful caterers: Campbelltown Work and Study customers, Parramatta Work and Study customers, and Leslie and Fred from one of our Supported Independent Living (SIL) homes.

We were proud to welcome Professor Habib Benzian from the World Health Organisation (WHO) to Northcott’s dental clinic recently.

His visit was a great reminder about how small, everyday adjustments in how we communicate and deliver care can make a big difference for people with disability.

Thanks to our teams and partners at the University of Sydney School of Dentistry for helping make inclusive, community-led oral health care possible - and for creating real-world learning opportunities for the next generation of clinicians.
