Marsden Eye Clinic is proud to be participating in a Phase 1 clinical trial exploring a new application of an existing medication as a potential intraocular pressure (IOP)–lowering treatment.
🧠 Why eye pressure matters:
Intraocular pressure is the fluid pressure inside the eye. When it becomes too high, it can damage the optic nerve.
👁️ How this relates to glaucoma:
Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of irreversible vision loss worldwide, and elevated eye pressure is its most significant risk factor. While it can be managed, early detection and effective pressure control are key to protecting long-term vision.
This early-stage study focuses on assessing the clinical safety and potential effectiveness of this medication in its novel use.
We’re committed to supporting research that pushes the boundaries of eye care and helps shape future treatment options for our patients and the wider community.

👁️ Diabetes & Your Eyes: What You Need to Know
Did you know diabetes can silently damage the back of your eyes before you notice any vision changes? This condition, called diabetic retinopathy, can lead to:
-Bleeding inside the eye (vitreous haemorrhage)
-Swelling at the back of the eye (macular oedema)
-Growth of fragile new vessels (proliferative diabetic retinopathy)
At Marsden Eye Specialists, our retinal doctors use world-class expertise and the latest treatments—from advanced laser therapy to sight-saving injections and surgery.
We also use the Clarus 700 ultra-widefield fundus camera, which captures high-resolution retinal images for early detection and personalized care.
🖼️ About the image:
This photo shows a 46-year-old patient with Type 1 diabetes and proliferative diabetic retinopathy. You can see:
-Laser-treated areas (yellow-white spots)
-Bleeding inside the eye (vitreous haemorrhage)
-Swelling (macular oedema)
Thanks to timely treatment and ongoing monitoring, the patient has been able to preserve their sight.
✨ A reminder that early detection and modern treatment make all the difference. Don’t wait—your eyes deserve the best care.

🌟 New Laser Technology at Marsden Eye Specialists!
We are excited to announce the installation of the Integre Pro™ and Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) laser systems at Marsden Eye Specialists NSW.
At Marsden, innovation meets expertise and we’re proud to provide world-class eye care for our community.
👁️ The PDT laser is used in the treatment of retinal conditions such as:
Wet Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
Central Serous Chorioretinopathy (CSR)
Ocular Histoplasmosis Syndrome
Certain cases of Myopic Degeneration
💡 How does it work?
PDT involves injecting a light-activated drug into the bloodstream, which is then activated by the laser. This selectively targets and destroys abnormal blood vessels in the retina, helping to seal leaks, stabilise the condition, and preserve vision.
We’re proud to continue investing in cutting-edge technology to deliver better outcomes for our patients today and into the future.
Strabismus (often called an eye turn or squint) happens when the eyes are not aligned properly. It can affect both children and adults, sometimes causing double vision (diplopia), difficulty with depth perception, and social or confidence concerns.
👁️ Common types of strabismus include:
Esotropia – the eye turns inward (crossed eyes)
Exotropia – the eye turns outward (divergent eyes)
Vertical tropia – one eye drifts upward or downward
✅ Strabismus surgery can realign the eyes, improving appearance and function. For many people, it also relieves double vision, allowing the eyes to work together more comfortably.
At Marsden Eye Specialists, our surgeon perform squint correction for both children and adults, with treatment tailored to each individual’s needs.
The results can be life-changing — helping children develop healthy vision and giving adults freedom from double vision and renewed confidence.
📍 Our team is here to provide expert assessment and treatment options for you or your child.
