Your coach sees performance. Your physio sees what’s driving (or limiting) it. 🏃‍♂️

Speed, agility, intensity… all great. That you move is important, but how you move matters just as much.

Overstriding, knee collapse, compensation patterns — these are the things that lead to injuries down the track if left unchecked.

The best athletes don’t just train hard. They train smart — with the right people in their corner.

It’s not just about distance - It’s about load, progression, and how well your body adapts over time.

The takeaway?
It’s not the kilometres that hurt you - it’s doing too much, too soon!

If you’re starting out, focus on:
• Gradual load increases
• Consistent training
• Strength work
• Listening to early niggles

Your body will thank you later!

This weekend our Exercise Physiologist, Rhianne, completed an ultramarathon.

Which means:

• A lot of running
• A lot of snacks
• And a lot of time on tired legs.

Ultras quickly teach you something important about running.

It’s not just about fitness.

It’s about durability.

Over long distances your legs absorb thousands of impacts. Without strength and proper progression, that’s where injuries start showing up.

That’s why we emphasise strength training and smart load management with runners at the clinic.

Most hamstring injuries happen because the posterior chain isn’t handling load properly.

Fixing the root cause reduces reinjury risk and improves performance.

January enthusiasm.
February injuries.

Going from 0 → 100 with no training base is a fast track to the physio table.

Start slower than you think.
Build capacity.
Your body adapts — when you let it.

02/02/2026

You’re lifting heavy.
You’re consistent.
You’re putting in the effort.

Yet progress stalls — or pain shows up.
That’s because strength isn’t built in isolation.
High-quality movement follows a hierarchy of needs:

🔹 Recovery: If your body isn’t rested, repaired, and fueled, adaptation can’t occur.
🔹 Flexibility: Muscles must lengthen enough to allow proper movement patterns.
🔹 Mobility:Joints need full, controlled range without restriction.
🔹 Stability: Can you control movement under load without compensating?
🔹 Strength: Only once these foundations are solid does true strength develop.

After years of clinical practice, this pattern shows up again and again:
✔️ Move better → get stronger
✔️ Ignore fundamentals → stall or get injured

Train the foundations first.
Your lifts, and your body, will thank you.
