☀️ Staying Safe During Heatwaves
Extreme heat isn’t just uncomfortable — it can be dangerous. Heatwaves increase the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion and heatstroke, especially for older adults, people with disabilities, children, and those with chronic health conditions.
During hot weather, it’s important to take extra care by:
🌡️ Staying well hydrated and drinking water regularly
🌡️ Keeping cool indoors where possible (fans, air conditioning, shaded areas)
🌡️ Avoiding strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day
🌡️ Wearing light, loose-fitting clothing
🌡️ Checking in on family, neighbours and people who may need extra support
Heat can also worsen existing health conditions and increase the risk of falls, fatigue and confusion. Planning ahead and recognising early warning signs can make a real difference.
At People First Therapy, we support safe, inclusive care across all seasons — including adjusting therapy, home visits and routines during extreme heat to prioritise wellbeing.
