What do these meals have that benefit cholesterol? ⬇️

🍎 SOLUBLE FIBRE
> which can help to form a gel like substance in the gut and bind to bile acids which then forces the body to use cholesterol stores to make more (and hence reduce cholesterol)
πŸ₯¦ INSOLUBLE FIBRE
> beneficial in feeding the beneficial gut bacteria and fostering a healthy gut microbiome which has widespread health impacts
🍣 OMEGA 3 FATTY ACIDS
> increases the good or HDL cholesterol
πŸ₯— ANTI-INFLAMMATORY NUTRIENTS
> important for overall health, metabolic function, antioxidant properties and has roles in raising good cholesterol
🧈 LOW SATURATED FATS
> saturated and trans fats are the type of fats that increase bad cholesterol
focusing on what we can increase rather than what to restrict is always a great approach πŸ₯

Volume eating is consuming high volumes of low calorie foods which can fill you up so it’s a useful tool for weight loss. Some people benefit from the opposite of this (eating high energy foods that are dense in energy for small portions) such as those who struggle to get enough energy in or are underweight. The approach best for you will be dependent on your individual circumstance.

There is an array of benefits to meeting your requirements of omega 3 fatty acid and often our clients are falling short of the required 2-3 serves fish per week. This is a fail safe way to cook just about any fillet of fish.

The last two weeks have been busy with professional development. The New Leaf team are always upskilling to make sure we are giving our clients the best care and up to date advice. The three of us completed a two day course on Evidence Based Management of Eating Disorders this week, and have immediate capacity to take on new clients in this space.

Eating disorders can occur at any age, and peri- menopause is a higher risk time as our body goes through various changes. Sarah has recently completed professional development in nutrition for peri and post menopause and attended the ANZAED conference learning more about meal plans in eating disorder management and the management of longstanding anorexia.

Recently, Amanda has also attended a gut health symposium and Imogen has completed a sports nutrition course. We have a well rounded team to help you achieve your goals in various ways.
