I’m taking a few things from the in 🇯🇵 :


🤔When what we are working towards aligns with our whole being, literally NOTHING will stop us from achieving it.



🤔 We will most certainly get wounded in the way. REST and RECOVERY are what will ACTUALLY get us through to the finish line.



💪 It is absolutely OK! to step out of the competition back into our safe zone! When something is just not working that’s what a retreat is for: SAFETY 🤗 Safe to re-charge, re-imagine and re-build our way looking forward. If elite athletes do that when the whole world is watching, WHAT is stopping us from doing it too?????? (Thank you 🙏)

Things are coming to BLOOM! ☺️☘️🌼🌸🌺☘️🌿


Has anyone else had a challenging year so far????


GOOD, because things are about to get better!!! 😏💪


It’s been 3 months since my last post. Last time I let you know of my burnout. Here’s what’s happened since:
😊 I chose to focus on things that are important, within my control and will support me.
😊 I choose to take a break from things that I could come back to later (Thank you for supporting my social media break! Coming off screens and devices has been incredible)
☺️ I allocated rest time in my calendar up to the next 6 months, where I’m not allowed to work or worry.
☺️ I deliberately included “laughter” in my week (I allocated a comedy night per week with our without friends)
☺️ I spent any screen time saved to nurturing close relationships and creating new friendships.
☺️ Surprisingly, I ended up working more, yet in a structured way which allows me to incorporate multiple aspects of wellbeing in my weekly schedule.


So, what’s happening in this photo for me??????
🌸 I’m actually SLEEPY! (ED work kept me up until 3am the night before!)
🌸 I’m still working it out & there are still things that I find stressful,
🌸 But, I KNOW life is way more BALANCED.
🌸 There is soooooo much of BEAUTY, friendship, LOVE, sun, GROWTH, dreams, GOALS, partnerships, EXCITEMENT, Re-starts, EXPERIMENTS and knowledge!!!🤩


It’s GOOD to be BACK!

Three weeks ago I was told I was BURNED OUT


My immediate thoughts?
😢 Guilt - “How did I let this happen?... Again?” “I’ve been burned out before, did I not learn?”
😢 Shame - “How can I be a doctor when I’m letting myself get burned out?”. I’m training in Life Coaching to help other doctors have wellbeing. “How can I be a coach when I’m a person that gets burned out?”
🤭 Embarrassed - “People will think I’m weak”


I am actually feeling these things right now for posting this publically🤭 “What if people just unfollow me for being weak and the opposite of “inspirational & motivational”?


Well THIS is why I’m doing it:
💪 Today it’s day!
💪 A day created to show doctors that their Mental Health matters!
💪 I know how hard it is to talk about it and feel ACTUALLY heard.
💪 You can be anxious AND extraordinary. You can be depressed AND a person/doctor others LOVE to be with. You can be suicidal AND worthy of living and receiving help and care.
💪 There are trillions of things driving these and it is NEVER “just you”. YOU have control over some of the factors. YOU are caring, YOU are worthy, YOU are extraordinary for having ever taken responsibility over another person’s life. YOU are NEVER your circumstances, but YOU are ALWAYS the only one carrying YOUR story. And that story MATTERS❤️

Ever since starting the I’ve had the PRIVILEGE of connecting with AMAZING people! 🤩
Each one of you carry an INCREDIBLE story that makes you YOU! Here are parts of mine and what The Happy Doctor is all about.


🤩 I am Greek! 🇬🇷 Proud of my super-rich culture that makes me a wiser doctor and overall human being. I speak an ancient language that has literally a word for everything! 🤩 I decided to be a doctor when I was 7 after treating my own cut and feeling SUPER-PROUD of myself! 🤩 I looked up to my dad, who I unfortunately lost very suddenly when I was 11. He inspired me to help others and care deeply about my patients.
🤩 Through this sudden loss, I became a superhero!!! Overnight, I saw myself as a protector for my family, felt super-brave when they needed help and worked hard to be the best and strongest I could be! Basically, I became 😌💪 (if WonderWoman were also a doctor, hehe!)


🤗 I graduated med school and discovered the challenges of working as a GP in the greek country. All while I helped run our awesome family business (the best Pharmacy!) I was working so hard that I realised it was time to move on and GO AFTER my OWN dreams.
🤗 Moved to England and started my TRANSFORMATION: became an Emergency Doctor while realising which parts of my thinking didn’t serve me anymore (ouch!)
🤗 Needless to say, I ended up doing what I knew best: care for others and work hard. I truly and deeply burned out...
🤗 Yet, as hard as burnout is, it led me to Australia! The place where I am REPLACING habits with better ones. Where I am accepting my VALUES and DREAMS and choosing to build my OWN PATH.


If you are going through any transformation journey, you know it is never easy. There is a great deal of fear, uncertainty, tears, taking brave steps that don’t work out, feeling like you are walking the loneliest path sometimes.


I started The Happy Doctor to show everyone that: 🤩 Vulnerable moments are our BIGGEST STRENGTHS! 🤩 Each one of us has a UNIQUE story with a UNIQUE potential!

This is coming from a HIGH-ACHIEVER:
Is it time we just took a REST???☺️


It became so clear to me this week: 🤔We are ALL (including me) so affected by a huge disruption in our lives in the last 2-3 months.
🤔 We have all LOST something to a different degree. Health, financial security, personal growth, family, relationships, career, physical strength, mental strength, resources to our future goals etc (You name it! These are all BASIC human needs)
🤔We all still want to continue having the safest, brightest FUTURE possible.
🤔 We are all constantly THINKING and possibly WORKING HARDER now to create the path to our best future (yet, the future is still very much a BLUR)


ME and EVERYONE I talk to these days literally NEED A BREAK! 😌


Though it may SEEM like we’re not progressing, the truth is:
😏 DOING NOTHING is an ACTION! (And a very challenging one to take most of the time). From taking complete time off to just creating moments of self-care.
😏 It WILL help us ACCEPT the present and FIND new RESOURCES to CREATE our future
😏 We will STILL ACHIEVE your GOALS. (Maybe just a bit later, maybe just on time. Who knows!)
😏 We are STILL INCREDIBLE
😏 We are STILL SMART (maybe even smarter actually!) and EXTRAORDINARY

INCREDIBLE people are allowed to go through HARD times🤗


History has thousands of EXTRAORDINARY individuals who changed the course of humanity. Politicians, scientists, philosophers, people of life-changing inventions. Yet, for all the amazing things they achieved, were there times all they could do was SURVIVE?🤔


My favorite historic figures are Aristotle and Leonardo Da Vinci. 😃 They keep ENLIGHTENING the world hundreds and thousands of years later. Yet, something tells me they weren’t doing it in the midst of loss, uncertainty or fear. They were as much HUMAN as any of us are.


I believe there is INCREDIBLE POTENTIAL in EVERY single one of us and we DESERVE to explore and FIND it!😃 It’s good to be proactive and productive. Yet, we are going through some very challenging and uncertain times. So many are affected in ways they didn’t want to wake up to!


I strongly believe, that if you are REINVENTING yourself and THRIVING, KEEP GOING!😃😃😃😃


But it’s ABSOLUTELY OK if:
🤗 You just want to MAKE IT to the other side
🤗 Or all you want is to SURVIVE for now.


💪Sometimes the BIGGEST step to YOUR dreams and goals is to SURVIVE the RIGHT NOW! 💪

NOONE has it “ALL FIGURED OUT”!


Today, I told one of my beautiful friends that I have been feeling anxiety for a few months now.☺️ I was so surprised when she said “But you LOOK so strong. You look like you have it all FIGURED OUT”.


I was like WHAAAAAT???
📸 This photo was taken a couple of months ago. I love how confident and calm I look!🤩
📸 What you DON’T see is that I feel nervous and lonely in the process of building my life as I want it. I feel scared most days not knowing when the things I want will come true. I feel frightened when I see others who “have made it!”. I worry that when I’m not working hard, I will fail. A lot of the time, I ask my friends and family “Do you think I’ll be ok?” in an attempt to reassure my worried spirit!



There is NO such thing as having it “all figured out”😏


💪 We can only do what we CAN
💪 We will EXPERIMENT over and over again until we figure out something that works for US (and probably works for no one else!😝)
💪 We can only do the BEST we can at that moment in time with what we have
💪 Being STRONG only means that you’re trying no matter what
💪 You CAN be anxious, sad, frustrated, tired, hopeless, scared WHILE you’re trying to find what works for you
💪 You can LOOK strong yet feel vulnerable inside (You’re still doing ok!)


Doing WHAT YOU CAN is ENOUGH.
You don’t need to have it all figured to serve your purpose. Only do what you can. And that is enough.

Today is a day of REBIRTH🌱


For those who don’t know, I am Greek🇬🇷 and grateful to carry a heritage so RICH in things that are proving truly important right now, like CONNECTION, LOVE❤️, FAMILY, SPIRITUALITY, HOPE no matter what hardship and FAITH that literally ANYTHING can get better🤗 (Worst case scenario, you can always dance a Zorba! OPA!!!!)


Today is Orthodox Easter 🌺
A day that has brought HOPE to so many humans over two millennia and one that, right now, brings to all of us:
😃 LIGHT to see at least one way out of our darkest places
😃 BELIEF that we are ALWAYS stronger than our challenges (If you think back at all the things you thought you couldn’t deal with, you’ll see that you actually did!)
😃 FAITH that it is only a matter of TIME before solutions come our way!


KEEP BELIEVING in yourself. You ARE stronger than your challenges💪

INNOVATION!


Yes! Series of SMALL ideas!
😏 Ideas that WORK
😏 Ideas that DON’t WORK


But all of them move us FORWARD and literally EVERYONE is capable of creating them! 😃


😏 When we humans are faced with a HUGE problem, we wish we would KNOW THE ANSWER to it straight away! It’s because we are scared or worried about the outcome if we don’t! (It’s called Disaster Scenarios😏)
🧐 IN REALITY though, HOW MANY things did you ACTUALLY have to do to overcome a truly BIG problem of yours in the past?????


Here’s The IMPOSSIBLE Problem Solution Guide 101:
👉 STEP 1: Name the problem in specifics!
👉 STEP 2: IGNORE the limitations!!!
👉 STEP 3: Write down or Say Out loud 6 (yes, six!) IDEAS that COULD work if ANYTHING was possible! (Even if they sound extraterrestrial or completely unrealistic! If
you can’t think to yourself, videocall a buddy!!!😏


👉 STEP 4: CONGRATULATE yourself for thinking like a DESIGNER!
👉 STEP 5: (you’ll love this) CHOOSE ONE of your ideas and EXPERIMENT!
👉 STEP 6: There is a big possibility that your idea did not work. But that’s OK!!! Having EXPERIMENTED with it, what has that OPENED UP for you???


This is the kind of thinking that has CREATED ALL the ways that help us DEAL with this virus outbreak😎💪 From medicines, medical technology, masks, gloves, online delivery of goods, working from home, online yoga classes (etc. you name it!!), they were ALL once CONSIDERED IMPOSSIBLE!


I CAN’t wait to see what MORE we are creating out of this!!!!🤩💪

YOU NEED TO HEAR THIS: What would a nearly 100-year-old man advise us now?😃


I had the pleasure of looking after the most AMAZING, near-100-year-old gentleman, who came into hospital late at night very very ill, but KEPT sharing his WISDOM!☺️


While he was dying, he said “I’ve had a GOOD life”!☺️


“I was born in Europe right after 15 million people died from Spanish Flu. And then there was the 1st World War. It was difficult when I was growing up and then I went to war (World War 2). We didn’t have to eat. After the war I came to Australia after 2 months on a boat. And I BUILT things! Me and my wife, we worked very hard. We used to go dancing (Argentine Tango!!!!) every Friday night! She died 20 years ago. I’VE HAD A GOOD LIFE”


😃 I asked him “WHAT’s YOUR SECRET?”


He said “NEVER GIVE UP”
💪
💪
💪
“NEVER give up. Find someone you LOVE and KEEP them. DANCE. Keep MAKING FRIENDS with people”. He said “Just TALK with people. KEEP GOING no matter what”.


Let’s face it: WE’RE SO GETTING THROUGH all of this 😏 Because we are STRONGER, SMARTER, more UNITED and more RESOURCED than EVER!!!
