COVID-19 (Coronavirus) – Patient Broadcast # 21

VACCINATIONS AND ANTIVIRAL MEDICATIONS

Como GP has updated our web page with new consent and information forms for Covid vaccinations and antiviral medications. https://comogp.com.au/covid/

Como GP provides Novavax Covid vaccinations.

Antiviral medications (PAXLOVID and LAGEVRIO) may be taken to reduce symptoms of Covid in a similar way that antibiotics may reduce symptoms from bacterial infections. In order to have the maximum benefit of these antiviral medications, it is important to start them immediately after being diagnosed with Covid by either a positive RAT or PCR test. These medications offer no benefit if commenced after 5 days of Covid symptoms. Como GP offers streamlined prescribing of Covid antiviral medications with all patients offered a telephone appointment for a prescription as an urgent fit-in appointment within 1 hour of calling Como GP. Please note that at the doctor’s discretion, antiviral medications may be prescribed for all patients over 18 years of age, however, only those patients meeting specific government defined criteria are able to have a PBS subsidised script.

FREE Flu vaccinations are NOW available for patients that are 65 yo and older.

Dedicated Flu vaccination clinics will be available in May. Patients needing their vaccination sooner can contact the clinic for an appointment.

Private Flu vaccinations are NOW available at Como GP for $20.

Please note that the government funded FREE Flu vaccinations for children aged 6 months to 11 years, pregnant patients and those patients with chronic disease are yet to arrive in clinic. We are expecting our initial supply of these vaccinations on 19th April 2022 and a separate FB post will be made when these additional vaccinations are available.

Please note that a strict clinic policy is that no other medical issues will be addressed during dedicated Flu vaccination clinics, including scripts and referrals.

NB: Patients without Medicare will be required to pay a consultation fee that is usually fully refundable by your private health insurance.

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) – Patient Broadcast # 19

CONSULTATIONS:

The WA government’s public health orders require up to 14 days isolation for Covid contacts and this has serious implications for staff and services at Como GP. Como GP’s priority is to provide patients with a continuity of service in these challenging times and we are therefore taking measures to reduce Covid exposure by minimizing foot traffic through the practice. This will reduce the risk for Como GP staff and give patients the confidence to attend the practice in person when their medical condition requires it.

As such, all consultations at Como GP must now initially be conducted as a Telehealth or Telephone appointment, with bookings made through HOTDOC preferred. If your appointment is urgent and there are no appointments available on HOTDOC, please call our friendly reception staff on 6165 2444. Appointments already booked will now be conducted by telehealth unless otherwise notified.

During these initial phone appointments, your doctor will advise if they need to conduct a further review with a face-to-face consultation. This may take the form of a consultation while you are sitting in your car in the car park at Como GP or, in some circumstances, a consultation in the doctor's usual consulting room. Patients that are clinically required to attend a consulting room inside Como GP must wear a mask and sanitise their hands prior to entering and leaving Como GP. All patients are required to register their attendance with the ‘SafeWA’ app or our manual register.

Como GP's protocol will be continuously reviewed and updated to reflect any change in the Government's public health orders.
