Have you ever wondered:
- why do I catch a cold or flu so easily?
- who do I have hayfever?
- why can't I fall asleep easily at night?
- why do I tend to lose my temper or patience so easily?
- why am I anxious about things?

This is often associated with trapped energies lodged in the specific locations, organs, channels and etc. The trapped energies will create obstacles and cause the specific areas to NOT operate in an optimal condition. Hence they are easily subseptible to imbalances.

If you are keen to explore alternative energy healing, then please book a consultation with me.

Endometriosis is a chronic disease that can affect women in their reproductive years. The word endometriosis comes from the word endometrium which is the lining membrane inside the uterus. “Endo” implies inside, and “metra” means uterus or womb. This lining membrane grows inside the uterus each month and then bleeds away during a menstrual cycle. Endometriosis is a condition where small pieces of endometrial tissues found in places outside the uterus. In this condition, menstrual blood containing endometrial cells flows back through the fallopian tubes and into the pelvic cavity instead of out of the body. These displaced endometrial cells stick to the pelvic walls and surfaces of pelvic organs, where they grow and continue to thicken, trigger pain, inflammation and scarring and bleed over the course of each menstrual cycle. Walls of the pelvis or the surface of pelvic organs are some common places for endometriosis lesions. O***y, fallopian tubes, uterine and ovarian ligaments, bladder and bowel, may also sometimes have endometriosis lesions. In some unusual cases, they can also be seen even in distant organs like the diaphragm and lungs.

Some of the most common Endometriosis symptoms are:
• Dysmenorrhoea - Painful menstrual cycles
• Deep seated pelvic pain
• Dyspareunia - Painful s*xual in*******se
• Dyschezia - Painful bowel motion
• Dysuria- Painful urination
• Disturbed menstruation- Excessive and irregular bleeding
• Menorrhagia - Heavy bleeding with clots and mucus
• Pain or dull ache during ovulation
• Bleeding in between periods
• Difficulty getting pregnant
• Depression and tiredness

Although endometriosis is not considered as a life-threatening disease, it does require timely diagnosis and treatment. The conventional treatment for Endometriosis includes hormonal medicines, pain killers, laparoscopic surgeries and hysterectomy.

According to Ayurveda, this condition is due to the disturbed Vata dosha. A vitiated Apana vata (a subtype of Vata dosha) can change the flow of blood (Pitta) and can disturb the Kapha dosha to grow in places other than regular sites. Apana vata is responsible for the downward elimination of urine, faces, flatus, child birth and menstrual blood. The vitiated Apana vata causes retrograde menstruation and leads to the accumulation or movement of endometrial tissue to settle in the fallopian tubes, pelvic cavity and other sites. Severe pain and scanty menstruation are associated with aggravated Vata dosha, excessive bleeding and burning sensation are associated with aggravated Pitta dosha, lethargy and slimy mucus bleeding with clots are associated with aggravated Kapha dosha.

Ayurveda states that the major causes of Endometriosis are because of:
• Mental stress.
• Delayed conceptions.
• Consuming too much cold, dry, rough, pungent, astringent and bitter substances and raw foods (i.e. Vata aggravation foods).
• Excessive travelling, substance abuse and physical activity.
• Suppression of natural urges (eg. involuntary functions such as hunger, thirst, tears, urination, defecation, sneezing, farting) and these may cause aggravation of Vata in the body.
• Hormonal imbalances, in particularly the case for women who have never become pregnant. High levels of estrogen can be a cause.
• Lower immunity levels.
• Exposure to environmental toxins.

The goals of the treatment are to control and manage Vata dosha to reduce pain and abnormal movements; to pacify Kapha dosha to reduce growth, adhesion and maintain fertility; to pacify Pitta dosha to reduce excessive bleeding; and most importantly to improve the patient’s mental health as Ayurveda explains that the root cause of all diseases is often stem from the mind (i.e. Manas). The line of treatments consists of:
1. Vata Anulomana – Downward movement of Vata dosha.
2. Lekhana – Scraping out excess Kapha dosha.
3. Srotoshdhana – Clearing the channels.
4. Dipana and Pachana – Restore normal function of agni (digestive fire) and removal of ama (toxins).
5. Shodhana – Panchakarma purification protocols.
6. Shamana – Ayurveda herbs to pacify the vitiated doshas.
7. Ahara – Dietary modifications.
8. Vihara – Lifestyle improvements.
9. Rasayana – Rejuvenation.

Ayurveda recommends:
• Stay cool and calm.
• Keep warm, dress warm and stay out of strong wind.
• Generally, a small but grounding breakfast is best, with lunch as the main meal and a warm and satisfying dinner.
• Avoid skipping meals and excessive snacking in between meals.
• Eat warming, moistening, slightly oily foods and spices.
• Consume food which can help to regulate bowel movement.
• Avoid raw, cold, light and dry foods.
• Avoid most types of beans and legumes.
• Avoid over eat or food which is cold, too rich, fatty, fried, heavy and most dairy products.
• Avoid red meat.
• Add digestive spices to the meals such as ginger, cinnamon, cardamom to promote digestion.
• Steam baths, humidifiers and moisture in general are helpful.
• Don’t suppress natural urge.
• Avoid s*x just before, during and soon after periods.
• Exercise regularly to maintain healthy body weight.
• Practice Yoga will help in maintaining a good breathing rhythm and providing relaxation.
• Practice pranayama the breathing exercise to calm the mind and body.
• Reduce the level of estrogen hormone in the body such as reducing alcohol consumption, avoiding caffeinated drinks, avoiding soy products as they contain phytoestrogen which behaves like estrogen in the body, avoiding dioxins (i.e. POPs) which are found in the environment and food chain (especially in the tissues of animals).
• Take more ginger, dandelion and turmeric tea. (ie. anti-inflammatory foods).
• Consume Ayurveda herbs which are helpful to balance the hormones, strengthen the immune system and cleanse the blood/liver.

We rely on our backs for some basic daily functions such as standing, sitting, bending and walking. Our backs, consist of bones, discs, nerves, fibres, ligaments, muscles and blood vessels, are literally the backbone of our existence.

Low back pain is the most common health complaint. It is usually characterised by a dull or sharp aching pain in the lower part of the spine.

Ayurveda provides much insight and many practical tools for ensuring that our backs support us throughout the years. The first approach to resolving any back pain is to investigate the root cause. Many things could trigger back pain such as:

• Diseases of the vertebral column, spinal cord, meninges
• Lack of calcium
• Obesity
• Fractures, lumbago, slipped disk
• Ineffective postures
• Excess foods which are dry, light, bitter, pungent, and cold (i.e. Vata aggravation foods)
• Fasting, loss of appetite or eating less nutritious food
• Over exercising or working
• Injury to the back or vital points
• Lifting weight that is too heavy or incorrectly
• Excess s*xual indulgence
• Suppression of natural urges (eg. gas, urine, stool, burping, etc.)

In Ayurveda, pain is usually rooted due to the imbalance of vata dosha, which carries the qualities of being cold, rough, dry, light, mobile and subtle. When our body experiences an excess of these qualities, we become stiff, rigid and dry, lacking the lubrication necessary to bend, stand and sit without pain.

The discs between the vertebrae of our spines, which are made up of a jelly-like substance to protect the bones often degenerate due to repetitive action and overuse (i.e. vata dosha moving excessively causing degeneration of the bones and joints).

In the body, the main site of vata is the colon, where the primary function is to eliminate waste. With lower back pain, constipation is common and elimination maybe irregular or incomplete. This also aggravates the lower back with symptoms of gas, bloating and pain.

In general, a vata pacifying diet and lifestyle, along with herbs, can significantly help to manage lower back pain.

DIET
• Have warm and nourishing diet such as soups, stews and kitchari which are excellent for vata.
• Eat food which has predominantly sweet (eg. cucumber, coconut, wheat), sour (eg. orange, yogurt, grapes) and salty (eg. seafood, salt) tastes.
• Avoid cold drinks, raw food and dry food like chips, popcorn and crackers. These types of food have the same qualities as vata and will further aggravate vata dosha.
• As excessive vata dosha impairs digestion and causes constipation, it is important to consume plenty of fibre through significant intake of fruits and fresh vegetables to support healthy elimination.

LIFESTYLE
• Keep warm, dress warm and stay out of strong wind.
• Keep calm.
• Generally, a small but grounding breakfast is best, with lunch as the main meal and a warm and satisfying dinner.
• Have small, frequent but regular meals.
• Avoid skipping meals and excessive snacking between meals.
• Steam baths, humidifiers and moisture in general are helpful.

HERBS
You can increase a few culinary herbs such as ginger, cinnamon and turmeric in your daily cooking to pacify the vata dosha. There are also Ayurveda herbs such as guggulu, rasna, nirgundi, ashwaganda, bala, guduchi, eranda and shallaki which are beneficial for lower back pain.

AYURVEDIC TREATMENT
One of Ayurveda’s most effective treatment for back pain is called Kati Basti. This therapy involves creating a dam-like structure using a dough to contain the warm herbal oil over the area. As the herbal oil is carried deep into the tissue layers, it increases circulation and softens the rigid scar tissue which has formed on the muscles and joints. The warm and unctuous oil will reduce the cold and dry qualities of vata and back pain begins to resolve. For home remedy, a daily self-massage with warm sesame oil or Ayurvedic medicated oil, followed by a warm shower or bath will greatly relieve pain and inflammation.

The meridian lines traverse our body, thru organs such as liver, spleen, intestines, ge****ls, heart and lungs. To ensure proper energy supply to your organs, the meridians need to be in good shape.

Doing Yoga helps to stimulate the Chi/Energy flow and remove any blockages in our body. In particular with Yin Yoga, we stimulate the chi flow thru acupressure by simply massaging, compressing or stretching the tissues that lie along the meridian lines.

We tend to focus most of our time and words on pleasant and unpleasant feelings EVEN THOUGH most of our feelings are actually quite neutral. Does this suggest that we remain blind or ignorant of the vast majority of our life?

"Neutral" feelings can in fact become the seeds of increasing joy and happiness. When we have a toothache, we are very clear that to not have a toothache would be very pleasant. But when we
do not have a toothache, do we touch the joy of having a "nontoothache"?

The conditions of happiness are right here, and what we need to do is simply become mindful of them.
