I never did Halloween growing up.
It always felt a bit gimmicky. Fake cobwebs, sugar highs, all of it.
But this year, watching Lola run from house to house in her costume, absolutely buzzing with excitementâŚ
I get it now.
Itâs not really about the lollies.
Itâs the adventure.
The way every house becomes a new world.
The way all the kids band together like a little tribe, running the streets, fearless and wide-eyed.
Some of the neighbours went all in this year.
Lights, smoke machines, even a guy dressed as a skeleton handing out glow sticks.
Seeing Lolaâs face light up when she realised he wasnât scary, just someone playing along, hit me hard.
I think thatâs what I missed when I was younger.
The feeling of being out and moving.
Running from house to house.
Laughing so hard your chest hurts.
Feeling your legs burn from excitement, not from a workout.
That kind of movement reminds you what your bodyâs meant to do, live, explore, play.
Moments like that remind me why I do what I do.
Because when your body works well, you can actually live moments like this, not just watch from the sidelines.
Maybe next year weâll decorate too.
Maybe weâll go all in.
Until then, if pain or stiffness is whatâs been keeping you on the sidelines, donât wait for next year to change it.
