TSH TSH - TEACH, SPEAK, HEAR (formerly Telethon Speech & Hearing) supports WA children with hearing, speech & language needs.

A not-for-profit, registered charity and independent school providing healthcare and education under one roof. Telethon Speech & Hearing (TSH) is a Western Australian based not-for-profit organisation, registered charity and independent school offering quality diagnostic, therapy and education supports to empower children with their hearing, speech and language development. Originating in 1966, TS

H began with a group of parents, who had great hopes for the future of their profoundly deaf children and refused to settle for what they thought was “second-best”. These parents decided to start a school of their own. With five students, no premises, little money and no experience, they made a commitment to pursue the very best oral education for their children. The following year they started The Speech & Hearing Centre for Children WA Inc., and a registered school officially opened on 6th February 1967. Today known as Telethon Speech & Hearing, our centre has grown since these humble beginnings and is the only place in WA that provides diagnostic, education and therapy services all in one location. As experts in our field we excel in bringing together services to support children and families to speak, hear, connect and learn in ways that empower them to live fulfilling lives. TSH is a Registered NDIS Provider and can help eligible children and families through the NDIS. Call (08) 9387 9888, email speech@tsh.org.au or visit www.tsh.org.au to discuss how we can best support your child and family.

During the school holidays, students from Iona Presentation College generously volunteered their time at TSH Wembley 💙

Students from Years 8, 10 and 11 helped create speech therapy resources for children in regional locations such as Onslow and the Wheatbelt as part of our Brighter Futures Pathways. Their enthusiasm, kindness and willingness to help truly made a difference, and it was wonderful to see these students giving their time to support others.

As a not-for-profit organisation, volunteers play such an important role in helping us deliver life changing therapy and support for children with hearing, speech or language challenges.

A heartfelt thank you to the students and their families, and to Iona Presentation College for fostering such a strong spirit of community, compassion and giving back.

With the final few days of school holidays here, some families may start thinking about the return to school.

If your little one needs a bit of support transitioning from holiday mode to school mode, here are a few ideas you might like to try:

📚 re‑introducing parts of the school routine, such as waking up at a certain time, getting ready to leave the house, or preparing a quiet activity

🎒 talking openly about going back to school and inviting them to share what they're feeling excited or nervous about - acknowledging their feelings is so powerful

🍎 letting them help make or choose some favourite lunchbox snacks they can look forward to enjoying

Supporting and reassuring your little one can help them feel more settled and confident for school. We can’t wait to welcome our TSH families back for Term 2 and hear all about the holiday adventures you’ve shared 💙📚

At TSH, we're proud to work alongside colleagues whose contributions advance knowledge, shape systems, and create meaningful impact in our community.

We are delighted to celebrate Dr Azadeh Ebrahimi-Madiseh, Head of Hearing Services, on completing her PhD through The University of Western Australia while leading services alongside colleagues at TSH, mentoring teams, and balancing a busy professional and personal life as a mother of two. This is an extraordinary achievement that reflects resilience, discipline and vision.

Her doctoral research focuses on transforming cochlear implant service delivery through a value-based, integrated model of care. Challenging fragmented care models, her work proposes a framework that strengthens outcome measurement, improves the experience, and supports sustainable, high-quality services across the whole cycle of care.

Azadeh brings a rare combination of deep clinical expertise, rigorous research capability, and strategic leadership. Her work that was recognised through a nomination for the WA Premier’s Science Awards in 2022, continues to contribute to how we think about integrated healthcare at TSH and to our purpose to serve the community.

Recently, we had the absolute joy of spoiling a room full of wonderful women at our annual Mum's Night for the Talkabout program 🩷

More than 40 incredible mums and caregivers came together for a well-deserved evening of relaxation, conversation and connection. With bubbles in hand, massages, manicures and plenty of laughter, it was such a pleasure to give these amazing mums the night off!

A heartfelt thank you to every mum and caregiver who joined us, we hope your cups are full! One mum even said "this is Mother's Day early! Exactly what I needed" 🥹

A special shout out to all the generous sponsors of the event, including Mikado Japanese Bicton for providing sushi catering, Regal Theatre for donating tickets to ABBA Electric!, BODHI Wellness Spa Retreat for a $100 voucher, Rose from WILD ROSE HAIR for two $50 vouchers and candles from Magick Scents - thank you all! We also appreciate Lauren (TSH education assistant) for her beautiful manicures and Renae (TSH education assistant) for amazing reflexology!

Mums, thank you for everything you do for your little ones in the Talkabout program. We hope you loved the event and we are so grateful to have you in the TSH family 💐

Don't worry dads... your special night is coming up in Term 2!

Our audiologists are all paediatric trained, with special skills to help kids feel comfy and confident in their hearing assessments 🙌🏻

We use play-based assessments, just like Peppa and George are experiencing in this episode of Peppa Pig 🐷 with fun sounds like robots 🤖, buzzing bees 🐝 and even a train 🚂!

Kids get to have fun, placing blocks in a bucket or building a tower, all while we're gathering important information about their ears 🎧

If you have any concerns about your little one's hearing or listening, book a hearing test with us today: www.tsh.org.au/audiology

“We wouldn’t be where we are today if it wasn’t for our beautiful TSH family.”

They say it takes a village to raise a child, and for TSH, this sentiment means so much more. At TSH, our Pathways to Success Program combines hearing screening, audiology, speech therapy and occupational therapy, giving children fast diagnosis and family-centred therapy.

The width and breadth of our specialised language and communication program is made possible with the immense generosity of Telethon7 Perth who provide funding to support what we do 🫶 Thank you Telethon!

For siblings Jack and Isabella, both experiencing speech delays, the impact of support was transformative. What began as fear and uncertainty gave way to confidence, with mum Jessica saying early intervention “changed the trajectory of our children’s lives”.

Their family journey through TSH's Pathways to Success Program shows how early support can have a profoundly positive impact on a child’s development - and why Telethon7 Perth funding matters 💙

Last month, Hannah and Megan (speech pathologists) and Melissa (occupational therapist) travelled to Onslow School to complete speech, language and OT assessments as part of the Onslow Education Initiative and Chevron Pilbara Ear Health Program.

The team had a very busy week - assessing 13 Kindergarten students and another 10 newly enrolled students from Pre‑primary to Year 3. They also completed outcome measure assessments with more than 20 students to track their improvement since commencing speech and occupational therapy.

We're thrilled to share that some children are now scoring within the expected range for their age, meaning they can be confidently discharged from therapy services 💙

This program is made possible through the generous and ongoing support of Chevron Australia. In 2026, we mark six years of providing speech and OT at Onslow School, and 15 years of delivering ear health clinics, assessments, and support to children and families across the West Pilbara.
