TSH TSH - TEACH, SPEAK, HEAR (formerly Telethon Speech & Hearing) supports WA children with hearing, speech & language needs.

A not-for-profit, registered charity and independent school providing healthcare and education under one roof. Telethon Speech & Hearing (TSH) is a Western Australian based not-for-profit organisation, registered charity and independent school offering quality diagnostic, therapy and education supports to empower children with their hearing, speech and language development. Originating in 1966, TSH began with a group of parents, who had great hopes for the future of their profoundly deaf children and refused to settle for what they thought was “second-best”. These parents decided to start a school of their own. With five students, no premises, little money and no experience, they made a commitment to pursue the very best oral education for their children. The following year they started The Speech & Hearing Centre for Children WA Inc., and a registered school officially opened on 6th February 1967. Today known as Telethon Speech & Hearing, our centre has grown since these humble beginnings and is the only place in WA that provides diagnostic, education and therapy services all in one location. As experts in our field we excel in bringing together services to support children and families to speak, hear, connect and learn in ways that empower them to live fulfilling lives. 💜 Celebrating International Women’s Day

As we mark 115 years of International Women's Day, this year’s theme, Give to Gain, resonates with us at TSH.

Approaching our own 60‑year milestone, we proudly recognise that women have been a pivotal part of our history and will continue to shape our future, while inspiring the next generation of women.

Every day, the women of TSH give so much - expertise, knowledge, empathy, energy and passion - to help create life changing journeys for the children and families we serve.

From our allied health professionals and educators to our administration and support teams, women make a difference across every corner of our organisation.

This International Women’s Day, we give our heartfelt thanks, recognition and celebration to the women of TSH. Your impact is felt every single day.

What are common signs of hearing loss in children? 🤔

Melanie is part of our incredible Paediatric Audiology Team at TSH, supporting children with hearing concerns from early childhood right through to their school years to ensure they receive the care they need to listen, learn and thrive.

As part of and this year’s theme “from communities to classrooms: hearing care for all children” Melanie highlights how important hearing is for learning, communication and participation at school.

She also informs how hearing loss can look for school‑aged children, and when families should seek advice and support for their child 🎧💙

15 years of shared purpose. 15 years of healthier ears and brighter futures.

We're proud to acknowledge this year's with our long-standing program allies, Chevron Australia. Since 2011, TSH and Chevron Australia have proudly partnered to enhance ear health in the West Pilbara through the Chevron Pilbara Ear Health Program.

Beginning with a single mobile ear health service, and growing into an award‑winning, community-embedded program, our shared commitment with Chevron Australia has meant earlier diagnosis, better treatment pathways and brighter futures for regional and remote families across the Pilbara.

As part of , we’re celebrating our incredible team involved in supporting children with hearing loss.

Teachers of the Deaf (TODs) are the specialised educators supporting children with hearing loss from infancy through to adulthood.

But...what is a TOD?

A TOD helps children learn to listen, speak and communicate confidently. At TSH, they support families through our hearing loss programs: Chatterbox for babies and early years, and Outpost for school‑aged children.

They monitor hearing devices, troubleshoot assistive technology, and work with schools and therapists to create supportive learning environments. Beyond the classroom, they walk alongside families, offering guidance, knowledge and reassurance through every milestone.

Our TODs bring remarkable expertise - and a whole lot of heart - to ensure every child can thrive.

Pictured is Amy, one of our amazing TODs in action with her Chatterbox Pre-primary class 🌈 She tells us, “It’s not just a job, it’s ear-isistible!”

Recently, we had the privilege of a visit from Professor Desiree Silva, renowned researcher and paediatrician in neurodevelopmental difficulties, internationally recognised for her work in ADHD and child development, Co-Director of ORIGINS at The Kids Research Institute Australia, Professor of Paediatrics at The University of Western Australia and Director of Research at Joondalup Health Campus Public & Private.

Professor Silva’s book, ADHD Go-To Guide, has helped many parents, teachers and clinicians in providing practical guidance for children with ADHD. Her visit to TSH’s central hub in Wembley, and the Talkabout specialist speech and language program, was a wonderful opportunity to showcase how TSH provides a life changing journey for children and their families.

At TSH, we walk alongside children and families throughout their developmental journey with an integrated model that brings healthcare and education together, connecting audiology, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, educational support and family-centered care into one coordinated pathway for different age groups.

We are deeply grateful for Professor Silva’s engagement and shared commitment to advancing evidence-based, child-centred care, and we look forward to collaborating in this space.

Have you spotted this adorable Little People character from Fisher-Price? 💙

Candice, TSH Auditory‑Verbal Therapist - Clinical Lead and Speech Pathologist, was excited to show us this figurine, which proudly wears a cochlear implant - just like many of the children we support at TSH 🦻

We love seeing hearing technology represented in everyday toys. It helps kids learn, play, feel included and see themselves reflected in the world around them 😍

If your child uses a cochlear implant (or knows someone who does), this could be a meaningful and fun addition to their toy collection.

This Valentine’s Day, we asked children in our Talkabout specialist language program, and Chatterbox hearing loss program what they love - and what love means to them… their answers melted our hearts 🥹

Their authentic (and sometimes funny) responses reminded us that love is found in the little moments.

Happy Valentine’s Day from our community to yours 💙

Peppa Pig is creating powerful moments for children with hearing loss in their latest episodes 🐷💛

In the newest storyline, Peppa’s little brother George is revealed to have moderate hearing loss in his left ear and is fitted with a hearing aid.

Guided by the National Deaf Children's Society in the UK, the creators worked closely with hearing loss experts to ensure George’s experience reflects real‑life journeys in an age‑appropriate way.

We know many of our TSH children love following the adventures of the Pig family, and we are thrilled to see such a pivotal moment included in this beloved show. For children with hearing loss, seeing their experiences represented on screen truly matters in helping them feel understood, included and empowered.

Thank you Peppa and we can't wait to see the full episode!

From young children to high‑schoolers, strong vocabulary helps every student grow 🪴

So, we’re excited to be using Word Aware at TSH - and even more excited that our own team member, Susan, is a qualified trainer for the program! This means our Chatterbox and Outpost team received training over the holidays and are supported to teach vocabulary in fun, effective, research‑based ways.

Word Aware is especially helpful for children with hearing loss or Developmental Language Disorder, while still boosting and enriching vocabulary for every learner.

We are proud to bring this program to the children at TSH, supporting them to find the right words, and build their confidence to learn, connect and thrive 💙
