We often get asked if getting braces hurts. Whilst getting them fitted isn't painful, your teeth may ache for a few days as your teeth and gums adjust to the new braces. Below is a list of what you can expect during the initial period:

🔸 Increased saliva flow: this is possible as your mouth adjusts to the new sensation of the braces.
🔸 Difficulty speaking: it may take some time to adjust to speaking with the braces in your mouth, as they may slightly alter your speech.
🔸 Changes in diet: you will need to avoid certain foods that can damage your braces and stick to a soft diet for the first few days.
🔸 Increased sensitivity: your teeth may be more sensitive than usual due to the pressure from the braces.
🔸 Minor pain: you may experience discomfort in your mouth during the initial days, but over-the-counter pain medication can help relieve this.

Rest assured, the above experiences are completely normal and will subside after a few days. Some panadol and TLC from Mum can work wonders whilst the braces begin their magic to transform your smile.
