Some people are told their thyroid tests are “normal”, yet they still feel tired, sluggish, foggy or unable to lose weight. One often-overlooked reason is how well your body converts T4 (thyroxine) into the hormone T3 (active form).

In our latest blog post, Natalie Elliott BHSc (Comp. Med) AdvDipNat GCTerAdEd MHNAA talks about identifiable symptoms that your thyroid may not be performing at its best.

Have you ever felt ready to make a change, eat better, move more, sleep deeper, but somehow, it is difficult to commit? We spoke to our consulting Naturopath Eloise Charleson about achieving a healthy lifestyle naturally, and here are some of her tips!

You’re not alone. So many women, come to me feeling frustrated, tired, and stuck. They want to feel better. They try to do all the right things. But something keeps getting in the way.

I believe lasting change starts by understanding what’s really holding you back and knowing you don’t have to figure it out alone. Alongside the hats of Nutritionist and Naturopath, there are times when I need to don the hat called ‘Life Coach’. Even the best advice is useless if it isn’t given in conjunction with strategies to incorporate changes into your daily life. Even my clients that have so much knowledge about health find it useful to have an objective perspective to target the priorities and clear out the fluff.

Let’s explore the most common barriers we see every day and how we can help you move past them with clarity, confidence, and support.

1. You’re Drowning in Conflicting Advice

“I just don’t know what’s right for my body anymore,” said one of my clients.

One day you’re told to eat more protein. The next, it’s plant-based or intermittent fasting. The sheer volume of health advice out there is exhausting and often confusing.

How individual support helps:

I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all health plans. Through personalised assessments and supportive conversations, I can help you understand your body, what it needs, what it’s missing, and how to nourish it naturally. I try to avoid fads and focus on real, sustainable long term care.

2. You’re Busy Taking Care of Everyone Else

“There’s just no time left for me,” mourned my client yesterday.

Between work, kids, family, and everything else life throws at you, prioritising your health often slips to the bottom of the list. You might tell yourself; I’ll focus on me when things calm down. But what if things never calm down?

How a naturopathic consultation helps:

I meet you where you are. Together, we’ll create small, doable steps that fit into your actual life, not your fantasy schedule. I believe wellness should feel supportive, not like another task on your to-do list.

Migraines are the most common neurological disorder worldwide, and one of the most common pain conditions, disproportionately affecting women more than men.

For women in Perth, understanding what is contributing to your migraines, will influence strategies to help reduce the frequency and severity of their onset.

Understanding how hormones influence migraine onset and severity is an important first step in developing an effective management plan. Migraines often flare during periods of hormonal fluctuation—such as puberty, the premenstrual phase, or perimenopause—when oestrogen levels are shifting.

DNA Testing allows us to truly personalise your medicine and health plan.

"The results allow me to tailor your health plan even more individually than before. Nutrigenomics is a rapid area of research giving us so much more insight about how to formulate a health plan that is ideal for you, not just generally healthy. Recommendations that can be made from your results encompass lifestyle factors, diet advice as well as specific nutritional supplementation or herbal support to optimise your gene expression." says our consulting Naturopath Eloise Charleson.

🔬 What the Research Says About Gut Bacteria and PCOS
‍
Studies reveal that people with PCOS often have an imbalanced gut microbiome, with lower microbial diversity and changes in bacterial composition.
‍
Study highlight: A 2020 mini review published in Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology
found that women with PCOS had lower levels of beneficial gut bacteria and increased pro-
inflammatory strains. These changes were present in both lean and obese individuals.
Source: Reprod Biol Endocrinol. 2020; 18:86.
‍
This suggests that the gut microbiome might influence insulin sensitivity, inflammation, and
even hormone production. The research confirms what my clients experience and I see in
clinic. My clients who complete our Gut Repair Program experience immediate and
long-lasting change by introducing a healthy fibre laden diet and targeted nutritional
supplements and herbs.

đŸ‘©â€âš•ïžWhat Is the Gut Microbiome?

The gut microbiome refers to the trillions of bacteria, fungi, and other microbes that live in the gastrointestinal tract. These microbes help:
- Digest food
- Synthesize vitamins
- Regulate the immune system
- Protect against pathogens

đŸ‘©â€đŸ«But there’s more!
Your gut microbiome also communicates with your endocrine system, which produces and regulates hormones throughout your body.

When I help women recover their hormonal balance with food, nutrition and herbal medicine, addressing
gut microbiome balance is an integral part of the strategy.

Natural medicine and Naturopaths have always understood that to optimise your hormonal health, it is crucial to optimise your digestive health. Science is now also revealing the powerful link between the two with more research into the gut microbiome and the way it impacts our hormones.

Thank you to all those who came to our Women’s Health Morning tea and listened to talks on Gut health, Prebiotics, Microbiome testing, hormones and skin health from Eloise Charleson, Natalie Elliott and Michelle Bourke. It was a fun and nurturing morning with practical take-away tips to integrate straight away, new friends as well as delicious gut friendly hot chocolate.

Eloise has been working with Gut and hormonal health for 27 years and started integrating microbiome stool testing 10 years ago.

“The tests available have improved over the 10 years and can be incredibly valuable for addressing acute symptoms as well as establishing a tailored preventative health diet" says Eloise.

When people come to see her who have been suffering from digestive issues for many years and tried numerous diets and strategies she finds that the microbiome test results can help target the exact path for quick resolution of symptoms.

“Some of my clients had become afraid of food as they no longer knew what they could eat without triggering severe discomfort”. If this is the case the microbiome test clarifies which specific prebiotic foods are necessary to transition to a health-promoting gut microbiome. For more information check our website or BOOK an appointment.

Congratulations to those of you who were quick enough to snap up the Gift bags and can enjoy the Gift Voucher towards a Beauty Treatment with Tammy or Verity.
