Christian Counselling basically offers biblical principles in guiding Christians and non-Christians in overcoming and enduring lifes trials. It seeks to edify clients with Christian sciptuiral love and wisdom, being sensitive to the Holy Spirit's leading to the clients needs, encouraging clients to be content within themselves, whether they 'abound or are abased' currently in their lives. Ulitmately for Christians, the plan of salvation through Jesus Christ and the answers to lifes trials are in the Bible but it is recommended to use scripture quotation in Christian Counselling with great discretion in frequency and at certain times, if at all. The love of Christ should be pre-eminent over legal scriptural quotes. Until the client is heard from the heart, their trials sincerely empathised with and they are willing and open to receiving God's Word, should quoted scripture be shared in a Counselling session. It depends on the client and the Counsellors discernment that the client is open to scipture and if they are not sure, the Counsellor should ask, despite the client walking into a Christian Counsellors practice. Some Christian clients will be quoting scripture back and forth, in/out of context of their reason they are seeking counselling and is not an invitation for a theological debate. Christian Counselling is NOT preaching! This is their time to share their story, trial or challenge. It is a respected space where clients innermost feelings and thoughts are shared in complete privacy and confidentiality paramount! Clients sessions are often prepared for with Prayer by the Christian Counsellor (or team of Christian Counsellors), prior to their arrival and is often offered at key emotional & spiritual breakthroughs but normally at the session conclusion if the client is welcome to it.
