Today our staff hosted our annual Christmas Lunch for residents and their families. 🎄

The dining rooms across the facilities were filled with a wonderful festive spirit as everyone enjoyed a traditional Christmas meal including turkey, chicken, ham, roast vegetables, potatoes and a selection of desserts that were very well received.

Santa joined our staff and Hellenic Community Aged Care Chair and Board Members to visit each wing, singing carols and bringing Christmas cheer to residents throughout the home. 🎅

A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated staff for creating such a special day for our residents and their families. Community and connection are at the heart of everything we do, especially at this time of year. ❤️

Happy International Men’s Day!
Today we celebrate the strength, kindness, and care that men bring to our community. At Hellenic Community Aged Care, we honour the generations who have paved the way and those who continue to make a difference every day.

Today, residents and staff at the Hellenic Community Aged Care gathered to honour Remembrance Day this morning.

It was a time to pause, reflect, and pay tribute to those who served and sacrificed for the freedoms we hold dear.

The morning service included a moment of silence and heartfelt stories shared by residents who remember wartime not as history, but as lived experience.

Their reflections reminded us that remembrance isn’t only about the past, it’s also about carrying forward the values of courage, resilience, and peace.

“They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.”

Today, 11 November, is Remembrance Day. On this day we honour all who have served and sacrificed for our freedom in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. We remember those who gave their lives in service to enable us to enjoy life today.

💙 Grandparents Day Celebration 💙
Yesterday, we celebrated the heart of our families, our grandparents with a Grandparents Day celebration! 🎉

To mark the occasion, students from St. Andrew’s Grammar joined us for an afternoon of fun, dancing and treats. The students performed traditional Greek dances to the hand-clapping, foot-tapping delight of our residents! 💃

We finished on a sweet note with ice creams and afternoon tea enjoyed together by students and residents. 🍦☕✨💙

“With our heritage in the Greek culture, we honour the wisdom passed on to future generations and recognise the profound influence grandparents have on our families and communities.” Says CEO, Paul Savvas.

📅 OXI Day, a day of pride, courage, and remembrance.

Yesterday, we honoured the bravery of our Greek heroes who, in 1940, stood united and said a powerful “ΟΧΙ” (No!) to fascism and oppression.

At Hellenic Community Aged Care, we reflect on the strength and resilience of our elders — some of whom carry the memories and legacy of this historic day!

In the words of Winston Churchill, “The word heroism, I am afraid does not render the least of those acts of self-sacrifice of the Greeks, which were the defining factor in the victorious outcome … during WWII, for human freedom and dignity. If it were not for the bravery of the Greeks and their courage, the outcome of WWII would be undetermined.”

Many thanks to family, friends all and our special guests who attended.

Today, we celebrate the remarkable career of Maria Papa, who is retiring after more than 21 years of dedicated service to the Hellenic Community Aged Care. 💐

Since joining our team in 2004, Maria has brought warmth, kindness, and laughter into every room she’s walked into. As our Staff Education and Professional Development Officer, she’s guided and supported generations of aged care professionals with patience, care, and her signature bright smile.

At her farewell lunch today, the staffroom was overflowing with stories, hugs, and heartfelt wishes. It was a true reflection of how loved Maria is by her colleagues, our residents and their families and the wider Hellenic Community.

It’s people like Maria who remind us what community really means: showing up with compassion, bringing positive energy wherever they go, and making every day brighter for those around them.

Thank you, Maria, for your years of dedication and care. You will be dearly missed, but your legacy will continue to inspire our Hellenic Community for years to come. 💛

Nothing beats a bit of sunshine, slow tunes and the smell of a good old-fashioned BBQ in the air! 🎶🌭

Our residents soaked up the sunshine in the Gardens today while enjoying a sausage sizzle right in the quadrangle with a side of coleslaw and fries. lovingly prepared by our amazing staff.

The music was playing, the conversation was flowing, and there were smiles all around! It’s these simple, joy-filled moments that mean the most. 💛

A huge thank you to our wonderful team who go above and beyond to make sure our residents are happy, connected and well cared for every day.🌿✨

🌿 Indigenous Peoples Day at Hellenic Community Aged Care 🌿
Yesterday, we gathered with our residents over a beautiful high tea to honour Indigenous Peoples Day. It’s a time to reflect, learn, and celebrate the wonderful variety of cultures represented among our residents at Hellenic Community Aged Care.

On this special occasion we were treated to a talk on Whadjuk Noongar culture and history by Shyan, our lovely caregiver on placement with us. We were also delighted to have Laurel, an Australian artist world-famous for her amazing sculpture titled, ‘First Contact’ at our resident celebration!

As a multicultural aged care community, we value the rich diversity of our residents and the strong friendships and storytelling that connect us. This day also holds special meaning for us in Perth as we acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we live and work, and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.

Thank you to Father Evangelos who came to meet greet residents with CEO, Paul and Site Manager, Yemi, on this very special occasion. And thank you to everyone who joined us in this meaningful celebration. 🫖✨

We are pleased to share the launch of our refreshed Hellenic Community Aged Care newsletter for the families and loved ones of our residents! ✨

With the introduction of our new email system, we now have the opportunity to bring our community something more engaging and accessible.

Moving forward, this quarterly newsletter will feature snapshots of the daily life of our residents, highlights of our programs and celebrations, and a closer look at the people who make our aged care facility such a warm and welcoming place.

As part of the wider Hellenic Community of Western Australia Inc., this newsletter reflects more than just the activities of our facility. It is a reminder of how each part of our organisation, from aged care to education and cultural life, is united by the same values of respect, dignity and love.

Happy International Older Persons Day! 🎉

Today we celebrated the wonderful older people in our lives with an outdoor concert party in our beautiful courtyard!

And what better way to enjoy International Older Persons Day than a party together in the Spring sunshine? 🌞

Residents, family, friends and staff gathered to enjoy smooth-crooned live rock-n-roll by Collin Ross and the Rock N Roll Express, tasty party snacks, great company, and a good cup of barista-brewed java! ☕
