A beautiful mix of painting, community canvas contributions, and clay ornament decorating today. Over just two hours, some beautiful pieces emerged as everyone experimented, layered, and let their creativity unfold. Grateful for another warm, art-filled morning. đź’›

“This is our Saturday thing now.”
That was one of the comments shared in class today — and it honestly made our hearts smile.

There’s something special about watching people return each week, settling into the space like it’s a familiar lounge room filled with colour, creativity and quiet moments of connection. What started as a simple idea has become a little ritual for some: a place to unwind, make something with your hands, and be surrounded by people who get it.

We love that our Saturday sessions are becoming part of the weekend rhythm.
A pause. A breather. A creative anchor.

If you’ve been thinking about joining us, consider this your sign — there’s always a seat at the table and a project waiting for you.

✨ Our First Community Canvas Completed! ✨

We’re so proud to share the completion of our very first community canvas from our City Farm classes — a mixed media painting of a majestic peacock, whose colourful feathers each carry the mark of a participant or volunteer. 💙

Every brushstroke and thumb print represents time — time spent expressing, creating, connecting, or giving to others. Together, these individual moments have formed something truly special: a symbol of community, creativity, and care.

We’re so happy this piece is now going to a beautiful home and family who have been so patiently waiting for it to be completed. 🦚💛

And the creative journey continues! We’ve just started our next community piece, and everyone is welcome to contribute at our Saturday classes. Come add your own mark and be part of something beautiful in the making.

Saturday Session Highlights 🌿 🎨✨

What a lovely day at Perth City Farm! Rebecca sold some of her beautiful pottery pieces, Johana and Kylah were busy creating handmade Christmas ornaments, Darren worked on his blue wren painting, and Orla and Erika began painting our next community canvas.

We also had plenty of curious market-goers pop in to chat and see what we’re about, reminding us how art naturally draws people together. 💛

This weekend at Perth City Farm we’re delighted to welcome our friend Rebecca O’Keefe, a local potter whose journey into clay began in 2021 after joining a class with her sister.

“From that very first session, I was completely hooked – pottery has a way of doing that to people! I soon bought myself a Venco wheel and began my own creative journey at home. Balancing pottery with work has made the process a slow one, but creating functional pieces that others can enjoy has been incredibly rewarding.”

Rebecca joins us as part of our initiative to support emerging artists and help build confidence in displaying and selling their work.

We love creating opportunities for artists like Rebecca to share their craft and connect with our community.

Come say hello and see her beautiful pieces in person this Saturday!

Today’s class was full of creativity and connection 🎨💛
Painting, Sashiko stitching, quilling, and decorating clay Christmas ornaments with dried flowers from a friend’s garden — so many beautiful projects and conversations.

When people feel safe enough to share their stories and use art to express what words can’t, we know this space is doing what it’s meant to — offering warmth, understanding, and community. 🌸

Today’s Class 🌿🎨

The studio was filled with creativity today — painting, Sashiko stitching, quilling, and decorating clay Christmas ornaments with dried flowers gathered from a friend’s garden.

What makes these sessions truly special isn’t just the art being made, but the moments when people feel safe enough to open up — sharing challenges they’re navigating and how creativity helps them express what words sometimes can’t.

That’s when we know we’re offering something needed — a warm, welcoming space where community and creativity come together to provide safety, understanding, and support. 💛

🎨 After setting up our new flower cart for the markets, this weekend I joined our participants in painting and decorating our new wooden tea chest — a lovely moment to slow down and connect through creativity.

I shared some insights from the book “Your Brain on Art”, which explores the emerging field of neuroaesthetics — the science of how art and creative experiences shape our brains, bodies, and wellbeing. Research now shows that engaging with art, even just once a month, can improve mood, reduce inflammation, and may even extend your life by up to ten years!

One of our regulars stayed back to share how much these sessions have helped her mental health lately — a real-life example of the healing power that the science is now confirming. 💛
