Today on the International Day of People with Disability, we hosted a celebration of all abilities and inclusion. Identitywa participants came together for a wonderful event jam packed with activities.

From wonderful music, creative arts, sports games, activities and a beauty bar, to delicious food and refreshing drinks, it was a day full of laughter, joy and connection.

The International Day of People with Disability theme this year is, ‘Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress,’ and highlights the importance of collective action in building a fairer world, one that fully respects and upholds the rights of people with disability.

Stopping Family and Domestic Violence: Play your part

Everyone deserves safety, respect and equality.

At Identitywa we stand with survivors of family and domestic violence and call on our community to play their part in building a world free from violence.

The 16 Days in WA campaign runs from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women through to 10 December, Human Rights Day.

Family and domestic violence is experienced at disproportionately high rates by people with disability, Aboriginal and culturally and linguistically diverse women and children and people who identify as LGBTIQ+.

A new chapter begins in Balcatta!

We’re thrilled to celebrate the official opening and blessing of two stunning new homes in Balcatta. These homes are more than bricks and mortar, they’re a testament to collaboration, support and community.

Built through a partnership between the Viney family and Identitywa, the homes are designed to support six housemates, including Michael, whose journey with Identitywa spans decades.

Designed to Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) standards, the homes feature:
• Spacious, accessible bedrooms and ensuites
• Open plan living and alfresco areas
• Passive solar design and water-wise gardens
• Advanced security systems for peace of mind.

These homes are part of Identitywa’s commitment to accessible housing, 14 homes have been built since 2019, with 16 more on the way!

Our sincere thanks to the Viney family and the Identitywa housing and operational teams for making this dream a reality.

These vibrant, modern spaces provide greater independence, community connection and a place to truly call home.

Carers Week 12 – 18 October

Today we celebrated the carers in our community by treating them to a lovely high tea.

With three million people providing unpaid care and support to family members and friends every day, this year’s theme is very fitting – ‘You are, know, or will be one,’ which highlights the widespread nature of caring, it affects virtually every person at some point in their lives.

At Identitywa we know that caring is rewarding but at times also very challenging, so we were delighted to show our appreciation and support of the carers in our community.

Our high tea was an opportunity to come together, take some time out and enjoy one another’s company, while honouring the unwavering commitment, compassion and resilience of carers.

We also enlisted the help of Jennifer, a laughter yoga leader who guided the group through a laughter yoga session designed to enhance wellbeing and remind us of the importance of self care, as well as caring for loved ones.

To all carers, your compassion, dedication and strength make a world of difference in the lives of others. We see you, we appreciate you and we thank you.
