“TAVI has revolutionised the way we manage patients with aortic valve disease"

Aortic stenosis is a common condition associated with ageing. In the past, treatment often required open-heart surgery. Today, for many patients, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) offers a minimally invasive alternative.

TAVI is performed through a small tube in the groin, usually under local anaesthetic and mild sedation. For appropriately selected patients, outcomes are comparable to open-heart surgery.

At Access Cardiology our leading interventional cardiologist A/Prof Michael Nguyen specialises in transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) and complex coronary and structural heart interventions.

A valid GP referral required for consultations and bulk-billed heart tests.

An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a simple, safe and painless test that helps diagnose heart conditions by measuring the electrical activity of your heart.

Your doctor may recommend an ECG if you’ve experienced chest pain, a racing heart, or other heart concerns.

💓 Your heart’s health is worth checking, not guessing.

Heart disease doesn’t always look like it does in the movies. Not everyone experiences sudden chest pain or dramatic symptoms, many people develop subtle or even no warning signs at all.

High blood pressure, high cholesterol, and other risk factors can go unnoticed for years, quietly increasing the risk of a heart attack or stroke.

That’s why regular cardiac testing and GP Heart Health Checks are so important. They help identify risk early and give patients the opportunity to take proactive steps toward better heart health.

At Access Cardiology, we’re committed to making high-quality heart care accessible for every West Australian.
🩺 We offer bulk-billed cardiac testing with a valid referral, ensuring early detection, rapid reporting, and seamless communication between patients, GPs, and specialists.

Protect your heart health by starting the conversation early.

Today is World Mental Health Day 💚

A day dedicated to raising awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilising efforts in support of those who may be struggling. It is an opportunity for communities, health professionals and organisations to come together to talk about mental wellbeing and to take action toward making mental health care a reality for everyone, everywhere.

At Access Cardiology, we believe that caring for your heart means caring for your whole self: body, mind and spirit. The connection between heart health and mental wellbeing is powerful. Stress, anxiety and depression can all take a toll on the heart, just as living with heart disease can affect emotional health.

Today, we are reminded that compassion, connection and open conversations can make a real difference. Take a moment to check in with yourself and those around you.

A healthy mind supports a healthy heart, and both deserve care. 💙

Salt plays an important role in our body, it supports muscle and nerve function. But too much can put your heart at risk.

❤️ The Heart Foundation recommends less than 5g of salt a day
🥄 The average Aussie consumes around 9g daily

Excess salt can:

• Contribute to heart failure
• Thicken your heart muscle
• Cause fluid retention
• Increase risk of heart attack

Tip: Avoid processed foods (often loaded with hidden salts) and focus on whole foods – fruits, veggies, whole grains and healthy fats.

✨ Small changes = big impact on your heart health.

01/09/2025

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in women, but the warning signs don’t always look the same as they do in men.

While chest pain is the most common symptom for both men and women, many women experience subtler symptoms such as:

• Neck, jaw, back or stomach pain
• Shortness of breath
• Nausea or vomiting
• Dizziness or unusual fatigue
• Indigestion or heartburn

These symptoms can appear at rest, during sleep, or be triggered by stress, making them easier to dismiss. But they can signal a serious heart problem.

If you notice these signs, do not delay seeking medical help. Early recognition saves lives.

Access Cardiology provides specialist care. A valid referral is required.
