Heartschool - Spring Mental-Wellness Talk

Time to pull out your diary and block-out an hour or so for next Saturday morning (31st August) - Mental Wellness Talk 📔

Ticketed: www.heartschool.com.au/talk

August 31.08.24 — 9:45am-11:30am

Come listen to our two keynote speakers and mingle with some like-minded souls

I feel privileged to be hosting Rachel and Dr. Hans.

My ears always prick up when I hear Rachel share her perspective, and Dr. Hans has been one of my favourite researchers since 2019.

Think mini-TED talk style —each speaker has 20 minutes to share their ideas.

The hot topic? Mental Wellness - and I couldn’t think of two better people to be commenting on this topic, given their time working at the pointy-end of Perth’s mental health

1. Rachel: ‘Keeping a Finger on the Pulse of Mental Wellness’
2. Dr Hans: ‘The Heart as a Window into Mental Wellness’

This talk is aimed at both (i) wellness orientated practitioners & (ii) general public - interested in the growth points of mental wellness care

Cheers,
Simon

P.S. While you’re here, check out the newly repurposed Wellness Precinct, inside Karrinyup Shopping Centre (L1) - it’s looking fancy

Heartschool: Psychosocial Tension

Back in 1980, a surgeon named Professor Waddell published an article in Spine where he emphasised the importance of viewing lower back pain within a ‘psycho-social context’.

Researchers began asking questions like ‘How much do you like your job / boss?’ as key prognostic markers for how long it would take someone to get better, rather than only questions like ‘How severe is the pain going down your leg?’.

Question: So why, thirty years on or so, are psychosocial contributing factors simply written down, before being ignored, or deferred on to the realm of talk-therapy?

A 4-part series of body-centred talks with Dr Simon Martin (Chiropractor)

Wednesdays 6:00pm-7:00pm
May 11th - The Trust Reflex
June 15th - Forgiveness
July 13th - The Power Center
August 17th - Community Cleanse

What is Your Measure?

Everyone is so caught up with 'techniques' in the healing game.
Collecting them like base-ball cards.
Identifying with a particular practice,
A particular recipe,
And out-sourcing their power to its founder or name.
When in reality.
The technique matters less.
Rather, what is more important is - the measure.
What are you measuring?
This is your intention, before the technique.
This is your integrity, after the technique.
Techniques are like tools in a utility belt.
Which can come and go, change and evolve,
However, they are not the 'why', they are only the 'how'.
So - what are you measuring?
Techniques give people lovely experiences,
Yet may not necessarily impact your intention.
How would you know? Unless you have a measure?
Techniques are actually expendable.
For what if another technique comes along which fulfils your intention better?
It's your devotion to the technique which matters more.
…not so much the technique itself.
You can hit someone with a piece of wood and if that gives you a better measure, than use that as your technique.

Technique in an expression, not a cause.

Place your intentions and shared values before your technique.

Techniques are fun. But it’s measuring real change where the business is.

Q: Is the tail leading the head? Or the head leading the tail.

Thank you,
Simon, Tobias & Sorelle.
