📢 Important Aged Care Updates: What the Latest Senate Hearing Means for You

Are you or your loved ones navigating the Australian Aged Care system?
The recent Senate Community Affairs hearing has revealed some critical updates regarding funding and wait times that every family should know.

At SIRV, we believe in staying informed to help you get the support you deserve. Here’s the "run-down" on what’s happening:

💰 Funding & The New "Support at Home" Program

The government has confirmed $4.3 Billion in funding for the new Support at Home program. While this includes 83,000 new packages, there is still high demand, with over 131,000 people currently on the national waitlist.

⏳ Understanding the New Wait Times
Wait times are now being categorized by priority.
Based on the latest department data, here is what to expect:
🔴 Urgent: ~1 Month
🟠 High Priority: 1.5 to 2.5 Months
🟡 Medium Priority: 8 to 9 Months
⚪ Standard: 10 to 11 Months

🏡 Respite Care Concerns
There has been a lot of discussion regarding "Cottage Respite" and the new "hoops" families have to jump through.
While the department insists that flexible and center-based respite are still available, the complexity of the new service lists can be a hurdle.

How SIRV Can Help:
Navigating these "ridiculous hoops" shouldn't be your job alone.

Whether you are waiting for a package or trying to access vital respite care, we are here to provide the Support, Information, and Respite you need to maintain your Vitality.

Don't let the waitlist discourage you knowledge is power!

Contact us today to discuss how we can support your journey while you wait for your package. 💙

☕️ It’s not "just" a cup of coffee.

We often think the best way to care for someone is to take the weight off their shoulders, to do the cooking, the cleaning, and the heavy lifting.

It comes from a place of love, but sometimes, the best gift we can give isn't a helping hand, it’s the space for them to do it themselves.

Reablement is a fancy word for something very human: the "I’ve got this" moment.

It’s the look on someone’s face when they:
Button their own shirt for the first time in months.

Walk to the mailbox without leaning on an arm.
Make their own lunch exactly how they like it.
Those aren't just chores.
They are tiny victories that say, "I’m still here, and I’m still me."

Why we choose independence:
Helping someone regain their skills is harder and takes longer than just doing it for them. It requires patience, encouragement, and a lot of cheering from the sidelines.

But the payoff? Dignity.
When we support independence, we aren't just "providing a service." We’re helping someone reclaim their home, their confidence, and their spark.

Let’s stop asking, "How can I do this for you?" and start asking, "How can I help you do this for yourself?" ❤️ If you would like to catch up for a coffee or tea and discuss how we support in more detail feel free to call or email amanda.egan@sirv.com.au

Community nurses play a vital role in helping older Australians live safely and independently at home.
On Primary Health Care Nurses Day, we’re recognising nurses like Dennis Mendoza, who deliver personalised, holistic care every day, right where it matters most: in the community. 💙
