What is Gastric Bypass Surgery?
Gastric Bypass, also known as Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, is a keyhole procedure where the upper section of the stomach is divided to create a small pouch, roughly the size of an egg. This pouch is then connected directly to a section of the small intestine, bypassing part of the digestive tract.
This reduces the stomach’s capacity to around 30ml–50ml and changes how the body absorbs food, helping you feel full after smaller meals while improving metabolic and hormonal regulation.
Advantages:
• Long-term, effective weight loss (around 65–75% excess weight loss)
• High rates of improvement or remission of Type 2 diabetes
• Reduction in reflux symptoms
• Proven long-term results over decades of use
• Performed laparoscopically with small incisions and a short recovery time
