Kickboxing.....
Alright… strap in for this one 😅
This is a long one.
You know when you've got something stuck in your head and need to get it out… yeah…?
So stick with me......
Have you ever thought about giving kickboxing a go? 🥊
So… honest take from me (Glenn, the guy currently riding his bike everywhere to save on fuel 😅)… I’m actually not a fan.
I’ve tried it. A few times. And for whatever reason… it just doesn’t click with me. I can’t even explain why.
BUT this isn’t about me.........
This is about what I’ve seen.
I’ve been around Ironmind for a few years now — properly immersed the last couple — and I’ve watched a lot of sessions. A LOT. And kickboxing is one that stands out every single time.
Because even though I don’t “get it”… I can see that it works.
There’s something about it:
The force.
The rhythm.
The focus.
The intensity.
The empowerment.
People don’t just do it… they transform. I'm actually jealous that I don't get this!
And here’s where it really blows me away — the mental side of it. Kickboxing isn’t just hitting pads and moving your body. It’s movement that clears your mind. The rhythm and intensity demand focus, so your head stops spinning with stress, worries, or overthinking. People come in anxious, tense, flat… and leave sharper, calmer, more present. That’s why we call it Movement for Mental Health — it literally resets your nervous system and mood while building strength, balance, and coordination.
And one of the biggest things I’ve seen?
Stroke rehab.
I’ve watched clients rebuilding connection between brain and body — literally retraining movement patterns. Kickboxing forces coordination. Timing. Reaction. Balance. It demands both sides of the body to work together. It builds neural pathways again through repetition and intent.
It’s not just “fitness” … it’s neurological work.
And when that starts to click — you see confidence come back. Independence improves. Mental health lifts. Daily life gets easier.
I walked into a session recently — the intensity was unreal. Pads cracking, movement sharp, energy high.
But the craziest part?
If I didn’t already know who was who… I honestly couldn’t tell you who the trainer was and who the client was.
That’s how far people can come.
Then you flip the coin…
I’ve seen people walk in anxious, flat, unsure. Quiet.
They warm up… ease in…
Then the gloves go on.
And it’s like a switch flips.
Full Rocky mode activated!
Everything else disappears for that moment. Just movement, focus, power.
That’s why I love kickboxing.
Not because I enjoy doing it…
But because I’ve seen what it does to people.
And yeah… part of me wishes it did the same for me.
But hey — we’re not all wired the same.
(Throw me on a water slide and I’m living my best life 😂)
So what’s the point of this post?
Try things.
Find what clicks for YOU.
And when you find it — back it, build it, keep showing up.
Because that’s where the magic is.
Oh — and yeah… Ironmind offers kickboxing as part of our Movement for Mental Health sessions.
(Almost forgot the actual point 😅)
Hmm… I probably could’ve just said
“Kickboxing is good for you… keen?” 😂
But nah… that’s not my style.
Love it or leave it.
Wanna give kickboxing a go?
I know a trainer or two 😏 Mat for one, is ready with the pads on! Me… I’ll take the photo!
