RETIREMENT

Barunga by the Sea has been designed to ensure you retain your independence and privacy, while enjoying the wonderful lifestyle benefits of Port Broughton. Our low maintenance homes allow you to do more of the things you enjoy, all whilst feeling safe and secure in our retirement village. The village has a modern community centre with heated swimming pool and gym, caravan and boat parking, a community garden, is pet friendly and has a walking track directly into the heart of Port Broughton. COMMUNITY

Barunga Community Care offers a range of services to people living in the Mid North and Yorke Peninsula regions, and everywhere in between. Our services can now be delivered to your home to help you… wherever you live. There are two levels of Government subsidised support for eligible people who wish to remain in their own home for longer. The entry level support services are through the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) which offer assistance with transport and domestic services. The next level of support is a Home Care Package (HCP) which is a personalised package of care customised to suit your needs. It may include services such as domestic assistance, personal care (bathing and dressing etc.), social support, meal preparation, shopping, light gardening, transport and medication support. Private fee-for-service is also available upon request if you are unable to/or do not wish to use Government subsidised services. RESIDENTIAL

Barunga Village proudly offers residential care at two welcoming locations: Barunga Homes in Port Broughton and The Willochra Home in Crystal Brook. Barunga Homes is an award-winning aged care facility, specialising in dementia care. Located in the delightful seaside town of Port Broughton on the Yorke Peninsula, each of the 87 rooms offer an ensuite and outdoor views. The Willochra Home, located in the heart of Crystal Brook, continues Barunga Village’s tradition of respectful, relationship-centred care. With 34 fully serviced rooms, it offers both high and low-level care in a welcoming country-style setting. Our holistic services provide our consumers priority access to additional services within Barunga Village, as their health needs change. WEEKLY HIGHLIGHTS FROM BARUNGA HOMES

This week, our House Members enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea in the gardens, followed by a BBQ lunch where everyone had the chance to relax and socialise together.

A special highlight was celebrating Jean’s 100th birthday. The occasion was marked in the function room with entertainer Les, who led a cheerful Happy Birthday.

During February, they generously gave their time to fundraising by working at the local op shop, making a real difference in our community.

HARMONY DAY AT BARUNGA HOMES

Today we celebrated Harmony Day at Barunga Homes with an afternoon tea for all staff members.

Harmony Day is a celebration of Australia’s cultural diversity and about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. It is a chance for us to recognise and appreciate the many cultures, backgrounds and experiences that make up our workplace and community every day.

Harmony Day is a reminder that everyone belongs. Let's continue to stand together, learn from one another and create a place where everyone feels welcome, not just today, but every day.

MEMORY EMPOWERMENT WORKSHOP REUNION

Yesterday, we welcomed past participants of our Memory Empowerment Workshops (formerly known as the Staying at Home program for the Mid North and Yorke Peninsula) for a special reunion centred on meaningful connections.

Designed for people in the early stages of dementia and their carers, the workshops offer both day and overnight options, creating space to connect, learn and feel supported. The reunion was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect, share stories and strengthen the relationships built through the program.

We are pleased to share that funding for the Memory Empowerment Workshops has been extended until June 2028. Funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care, the program covers accommodation, meals and all retreat resources, with no cost to participants.

If you would like to learn more about how we can support you and your loved one, visit our website or call 08 8635 0566.

FAREWELL AND CONGRATULATIONS TO MERILYN STRINGER

Today, we farewelled Merilyn (Ace) as she steps into retirement after more than 32 years with Barunga Village.

Merilyn began her journey in March 1993 as a Caregiver and through her dedication and passion for quality care, progressed to become an Enrolled Nurse. Over the years, she held a number of leadership roles including EN/Quality Coordinator, Quality Improvement Coordinator, Coordinator of Community Care Quality Improvement, Community Coordinator and most recently, Community Quality Leader.

Across every role, Merilyn was known for her kindness, professionalism and unwavering commitment to continuous improvement. Her leadership, generosity in sharing knowledge, and genuine care for both the people we support and her colleagues have helped shape the quality of care at Barunga Village.

Thank you, Merilyn, for the care, leadership and heart you have shared over more than three decades. You will be greatly missed and we wish you every happiness as you step into a very well-earned retirement.
