✨IT CAN BE A JUNGLE OUT THERE…✨

😵‍💫Re information on movement, pain science, anxiety and pelvic floor dysfunction…

😬 After all, who can you trust… believe in?
🤔So much information “out there”…

😊Well, for thank goodness I was exposed to the .act Acceptance and Commitment Therapy model many years ago…

🙇‍♀️I studied this science- based approach towards well being for many, many years…
😓Spent many a weekend studying…
🕯️Studied into the wee hours of the next day…
👨‍🏫Spent many weekdays doing “in person” workshops…
😌Practiced and implemented ACT on myself…
🕰️Continue to engage in ACT everyday…
✍🏼Conducted ACT workshops…
🧠Listened to the constructive feedback from my mentors over the years…

And above all, acted upon my values…
Behaving like the sort of person I want to be… to myself and other people around me.

✨So I will continue to “be my best self” to provide education on living a meaningful life…

✨POST 60TH BIRTHDAY REFLECTIONS…

👀Looking back through my early days of teaching Pilates…

🤔I reflect on…
* The times I lived my values.
* The lessons that I have learnt.
* Who matters to me and what matters to me.

🤔And moving forward, as I steer through the next decade, I explore…
* What values I want to bring forth…
* What I would like to do more of, less of or do differently…

🤔Perhaps the first way forward is to “come out of my comfort zone” re education on three areas I am passionate about…(but all related to each other)
* chronic pain
* anxiety
* pelvic floor

😌In doing so, as I take my actions into a different direction, as I start “stretching” myself, taking my teachings into a new, meaningful direction, plenty of self- compassion will be required!

If I had a dollar for every time the word “SLOWLY”
is said in the studio, I would be a millionaire by now!!!

Unfortunately this fast pace life interprets that some movements must also be done with speed and haste…

🤔Where is the connection to the mind?
🤔Where is the connection to the breath?
🤔Where is the connection to f e e l i n g the
muscles… the skeletal system?

❓Is your “mind full?”…
Or are you moving “mindfully?”

So they say…when feeling stressed, anxious and in physical pain…And before I stand corrected, meditation and relaxation ...

So they say…when feeling stressed, anxious and in physical pain…

And before I stand corrected, meditation and relaxation techniques do have their place…

But what if …
* A truly stressful situation presents.
* Unpleasant feelings present in a public
setting.
* You are hyper-mobile and also neurodivergent.

Then,for some… breath work can actually heighten pain, tension and anxiety.

Fortunately there are other ways “to get out of your head and into your body “- (Steven C.Hayes- professor of psychology, Nevada)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy(ACT)is one such avenue.
ACT has been shown to be outstandingly effective in helping people experience anxiety and other unpleasant feelings and uncomfortable thoughts…provided you put in the work…

✨USING THE BREATH TO RECONNECT WITH OUR HERE- AND- NOW EXPERIENCE…

❗️Note!The absence of the word “relaxation”…
✔️But rather, why don’t we use the breath to help us ground ourselves…
🧠Let’s recognise how we can go about our day not holding onto our muscles tightly…not clenching our jaws…not raising our shoulders to our ears…BUT…
😩You are upset…
😵‍💫Or overwhelmed…
😡Or feeling angry…
😳Or anxious…
😠Or full of judgement and criticism…

😮‍💨Then perhaps we could use the breath to remind us to “ease off the tension “…
🧠To notice the impact what “holding on tightly” does to our muscular and skeletal structures when we have had a bad day… when we dwell on how unjustly life has dished out unfairness…

The breath is not always about relaxation, but rather about connection…

💪🏼Whilst strengthening my muscles…
👀 I noticed…
⛅️ The morning sun & plant display on the blind.
Flickering, patterns of light, nature.

So even when life gets tough (in this case working through my feelings of “uncomfortableness” as I undertake my disciplined strengthening exercises) one can still connect to the world around us.
