Exciting news for AVAC Services.

AVAC Services is entering its next chapter.

Over the coming months, AVAC will transition into a law firm environment, operating as AVAC Services, operated by Standto Legal.

This change allows us to continue supporting veterans and their families through the DVA process while operating within a fully regulated legal framework.

For the veteran community, this means stronger professional oversight, greater transparency, and the ability to expand the services available to those navigating complex compensation systems.

Importantly, existing clients will have the option to transition into the new structure at no additional cost, ensuring continuity of care remains our priority.

We are proud of what has been achieved so far and excited about the future of supporting the veteran community.

We’re looking forward to attending the Cairns RSL Sub Branch Diggers Lunch on March 27 at 12:30 PM.

We’re pleased to share that Rachelle Foley from AVAC Services will be joining on the day and contributing to the raffle, with a $100 gift card and merchandise giveaways up for attendees.

The AVAC Services team will be in Cairns from March 26 to 28 and are looking forward to connecting with local veterans and their families. As we continue transitioning into a legal services framework, this next step allows us to provide even greater access to support for veterans.

We’re also keen to connect with medical providers who specialise in veteran wellbeing and take a truly veteran-centred approach.

If you’re attending the lunch, come and say hello. Our team will be there to chat, offer support, and answer any questions around DVA claims and legal services.

Many primary injuries do not exist in isolation.

Over time, they lead to secondary conditions.

For example:

• Chronic knee injuries leading to lower back degeneration
• Orthopaedic injuries contributing to depression or anxiety
• Medication side effects impacting liver function or cognition
• Sleep disorders linked to chronic pain

If a condition is not claimed, it is not assessed.

If it is not assessed, it does not form part of your Permanent Impairment calculation.

And if it is not included in that calculation, it does not contribute to your overall entitlement.

This is where claims often become partial rather than comprehensive.

Secondary conditions can significantly increase overall impairment ratings and entitlements, but only if properly identified, documented, and linked to service under the relevant legislative test.

A complete claim tells the full medical story, not just the obvious injury.

Participation in sport is actively encouraged within the ADF.

However, whether an injury is compensable depends on its legal classification as “defence-caused.”

Generally:

• Injuries during authorised inter-unit or inter-service competitions are accepted as sufficiently connected to service.
• Injuries during training for Defence sport may also be covered.
• Civilian sport injuries may be compensable but usually require written authorisation from the Commanding Officer.

These matters often turn on documentation and authorisation records.

If coverage is disputed, the issue becomes legal, not just medical.

The distinction can significantly affect long-term entitlements.
