Welcome Dr Vik Varma!

Dr Vik commenced with Westside on Monday 2nd February as a GP Registrar. He will be with us for the next 6 months working 5 days a week.

Dr Vik completed his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Sydney and undertook his junior medical training at Nepean Hospital.

He is drawn to the breadth and complexity of presentations in general practice, with particular interests in mental health and preventive care.

Outside of medicine, Dr Vik enjoys playing soccer and chess, is fluent in Hindi, and is an avid follower of the NHL and English Premier League.

Welcome Dr Cassie Panther!

Dr Cassie commenced with Westside on Monday 2nd February as a GP Registrar. She will be with us for the next 12 months working 4 days a week- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Dr Cassie grew up in the Port Macquarie area and completed her medical studies at the University of Newcastle. She began work as a doctor in Port Macquarie Base Hospital. Prior to medicine, she worked as a Registered Nurse both locally and overseas.

Outside of work, she enjoys quality time with her family, reading and gardening with varying levels of success.

Welcome Dr Aharani Ganesh!

Dr Ganesh commenced with Westside on Monday 2nd February as a GP Registrar. She will be with us for the next 6 months working 4 days a week- Tuesday to Friday.

Dr Ganesh is a soon to be fellow of the GP college who enjoys providing holistic, evidence-based care across all stages of life. She is passionate about supporting her patients to achieve better health outcomes through preventative care and shared decision-making.

Dr Ganesh completed her medical degree at Griffith University and has worked across a range of hospital and community settings, including Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Westmead Hospital, and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. She has finished her training in general practice and is awaiting her formal fellowship qualification.

Dr Ganesh values a calm, compassionate, and non-judgemental approach, and welcomes patients from all backgrounds. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, cooking, and staying active.

My Medicare Registration

If you've had an appointment with us in the past week, you may have received a text encouraging you to register for MyMedicare. This is a voluntary scheme for patients to notify Medicare know who their regular GP is.

Over time it will allow us to provide care or services to you that we can't if you're not MyMedicare registered, such as longer telephone appointments.

You can register for MyMedicare via a text you've receive, online or in app with Medicare, or in person with us at the clinic. Please feel free to ask any questions of your doctor, or our staff 💙🩷

Our bulk-billing trial starts today

Most appointments will now routinely be bulk-billed for all patients with a Medicare or DVA card

Services that may still attract a fee include:
* Procedures, including skin biopsy or skin lesion excision
* Spirometry (lung function tests)
* Commercial driver's licence medicals
* The cost of your vaccines, if not covered on the national immunisation program (e.g. travel vaccines, whooping cough boosters

BB-ig Announcement!

We have momentous news to share today - we are going to trial a move to being a mostly bulk-billing practice from Saturday, the 1st of November 2025.

Many patients will have noticed a lot of talk about bulk-billing in the media in recent months. There has been additional funding announced to enourage GP clinics to increase how many appointments they bulk-bill.

We'd like to stress that this will be a TRIAL for 3-6 months. We're honestly quite uncertain if a change to mostly bulk-billing is going to be financially sustainable for the practice, but we'd really like to make it work if we can!

A small number of appointment types will still attract a gap fee - predominantly procedures - and we will provide more information about this in coming days.

Some bittersweet news today...

Dr Geoff Arthurson has announced that he'll be leaving general practice at the end of the year, to retrain as a psychiatrist. We're very sad to lose Dr Arthurson as one of the GPs here at WMC. However, we are desperately in need of more psychiatrists in Port Macquarie! We eagerly await the day when we can refer our patients to Geoff in his new specialty 💙🩷

Dr Arthurson's last day will be Friday, 19th December.
