Spotting before your period?
After ovulation, progesterone is produced by the corpus luteum, the temporary gland formed in the o***y. Its main role is to prepare and support the uterine lining (endometrium) for a potential pregnancy. Progesterone helps build a strong, nutrient-rich lining with spiral shaped blood vessels that supply oxygen and nutrients to a developing embryo once implantation occurs.
If fertilisation doesn’t happen, progesterone levels naturally decline, signalling the body to shed the uterine lining, this is the start of your menstrual bleed.
Spotting before your period can occur when progesterone levels drop too early or are too low, leading to premature shedding of the uterine lining. This often appears as light bleeding or brown discharge before your full period begins.
What can you do to optimise progesterone levels.
