Back in the 90s it was common practice for models to substitute ci******es for meals to maintain the “heroin chic” thin body ideal that the fashion designers preferred at the time.
Thank goodness we started to make progress with the body positivity movement from about 2014 onwards.
However, with the recent rise in the use of weight loss drugs amongst celebrities, we’re now unfortunately seeing a return to the “skinny is greater than healthy” mindset.
Eating disorders amongst young people are again on the rise.
Women who are now going through the menopause transition are seen as easy targets for weight loss grifters.
That’s one of the many reasons that I continue to show up on social media and demonstrate what a healthy, physically active woman in her 50s actually looks like.
Not some AI generated or heavily filtered version of perfection.
The real sweaty, messy haired, funny lifting face version of a mum of four getting in her daily exercise.
When you concentrate more on the number on the bar rather than the number on the scale staying well fed is a must.
