What can BICARB do? This double-blind study showed it to improve time to exhaustion 📈

In a double-blind trial, trained cyclists lasted 10% longer at race-intensity effort after taking bicarbonate 🥣

The performance boost comes from improved acidity buffering. Bicarb helps neutralise hydrogen ions, slowing the drop in muscle pH (build up of acid) and allowing athletes to sustain pace for longer ⏱️

In the study, cyclists completed a time-to-exhaustion test under two conditions: bicarb and placebo. The results were clear:

🥣 Bicarb: 49.5 minutes

⬇️ Placebo: 45.0 minutes

This research shows that bicarb enhances tolerance of sustained high-intensity effort, helping athletes dig deeper and hold on longer when it matters most. Crucial on race day!

Aid Station Local Legend, became the first paraplegic to complete an Ultra Marathon, at the Bondi to Manly 80km Ultra over the weekend 💪

Starting on October 22nd, Jay set out with two goals:

1. To raise vital funds and awareness for spinal cord injury research.
2. To make history…and that he did.

After starting early Wednesday morning, Jay remained steadfast, pushing through the gruelling high millage whilst running off just a few naps in the car…Jay crossed the finish line with his family beside him on Saturday 🙌

Jay shared: “My shoulders are feeling surprisingly good, but my hips, quads, and heels are feeling a little worse for wear!”

We couldn’t be prouder to have Jay represent Aid Station, he is a true inspiration and all-round legend 👏
