The Australian government has announced changes to supports for children with additional developmental needs.

Children aged eight and under with developmental delay and/or autism, with low to moderate support needs will be supported by the new Thriving Kids model, while children with permanent and significant disability remain eligible for supports under the NDIS.

The model focuses on earlier identification and easier access to services which are delivered in everyday settings where children live, learn, and play.

Super Core: See and Say is a grid set that brings together the Super Core vocabulary in Grid and a built-in web browser - designed to support inclusive, interactive learning.

This grid set makes it easier for teachers to embed AAC into everyday lessons using the digital tools they already love. Students can use core vocabulary to ask questions, comment, and engage with lessons.

Use it on interactive whiteboards to model language, personalise vocabulary, and support communication in real time.

We’re pleased to see AAC included in the first autistic Barbie. This doll reflects experiences that some autistic people may relate to.

Created in partnership with ASAN* in America, this doll highlights different ways people may communicate, regulate and experience the world. While a single doll can’t capture all autistic experiences, seeing neurodiversity in the mainstream is a step towards inclusion, understanding, and acceptance.

We love seeing Barbie holding an AAC tablet, an everyday tool that supports alternative ways of communicating and self-expression.

Representation like this matters. When alternative ways of communicating are reflected through play, it sends a message, that everyone has the right to communicate, be heard, and engage with the world in their own way.
