Terrace Clinic

Terrace Clinic Terrace Clinic is an AGPAL accredited practice. This clinic would provide a spacious yet warm and welcoming environment to all that entered.

Terrace Clinic came about as an idea between Dr George Pillay and Dr Andrew Jeyaprakash, our principal founders back in November 2004 who envisioned a new clinic to be purpose built adjacent from the Port Pirie Regional Health Service. We moved into our temporary clinic and were joined by Dr Santhosh Vellaiah-Retnaswamy, until the construction of our purpose built premises became a reality in May 2006.

Keeping a daily journal can be a valuable part of your routine. It helps you reflect on your day, set and work toward goals, express gratitude and plan ahead.
Journalling can be calming and self-soothing, and you can do it whenever it suits you.
Everyone's approach will be different - the key is finding what works for you.

The body tightens muscles under stress. By intentionally tensing and releasing your muscles, you’re letting your nervous system know that the threat has passed.
This tool is called progressive muscle relaxation, and here’s why it works:
👉 The increased body awareness can help you catch and release tension before it spirals.
👉 The focus on muscle gives the mind a grounding anchor, interrupting racing thoughts.
The best thing about TIPP tools (temperature, intense exercise, paced breathing, and progressive muscle relaxation) is that you can access them anytime, anywhere.

📞 Phone Line Update for Our Patients 📞

If you are trying to call us at the surgery and cannot get through, it means our phone queue has reached its maximum capacity. Our system allows a certain number of callers in the queue at one time, and once this limit is reached, additional calls cannot enter.

If you are unable to get through, please hang up and try calling again a little later. If you are in the queue, please stay on the line and our reception team will answer your call as soon as possible.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while our staff assist a high volume of callers. Thank you for your cooperation.

Have you ever had a nosebleed? Around half of us will have one in our lifetime.
A nosebleed can be caused by a number of factors, but it is rarely serious.
If you or someone you know has a nosebleed, follow these steps.
1️⃣ Tilt your head slightly forward
2️⃣ Press the soft part of your nostrils
3️⃣ Breathe through your mouth
4️⃣ Place a cold cloth on your forehead and neck
If bleeding continues for more than 15 minutes after following these steps, contact a medical professional.

Getting enough sleep each day is one of the most important things we can do for our health.
It makes us feel better, more alert, energetic, and improves our ability to concentrate and perform our daily tasks.
If you’re having trouble getting a good night’s sleep, here are some tips that might help:
✔️ stick to regular sleep patterns
✔️ avoid using your computer or phone during your ‘bedtime routine’
✔️ avoid tea, coffee, and caffeinated soft drinks before going to bed
✔️ exercise during the day, but not right before bed
✔️ if you can’t fall asleep, get out of bed and try again in an hour.

Clenching your jaw is a common habit that can happen when you’re stressed, anxious or concentrating.
You might not even realise you’re doing it until you notice symptoms like jaw pain, headaches, worn teeth or stiffness when you wake up.
If this causes ongoing pain, see your dentist or doctor for advice.

Wisdom teeth, also known as the third adult molar teeth, usually grow through at the very back your gums around the age of 18 – 25 years.
Wisdom teeth are completely unique to each person as the position in the jaw, eruption pattern, and impact on oral health vary individually.
You can have between 0- 4 wisdom teeth, but they might only partially come through your gums or may never appear at all.
You may need to have your wisdom teeth removed if they:
🦷 don’t come through properly
🦷 are impacted (stuck against nearby teeth or bone)
🦷 are at risk of decay or gum infection
🦷 are affected by a cyst or tumour.
If your wisdom teeth are coming through (erupting), there are things you can do to look after your gums, reduce pain and the chance of an infection.
Speak to your dentist at either your next check-up appointment or if you have concerns about your wisdom teeth.

Motion sickness happens when you feel unwell while travelling in a car, boat, plane, or other form of transport.
It occurs when your brain gets mixed signals - what you see doesn't match up with what your inner ear's balance system is sensing, creating confusion that makes you feel sick.
The main symptom is nausea, but you might also experience vomiting or retching, dizziness, drowsiness, cold sweats, headaches, loss of appetite, an unusually dry mouth or excess saliva, and heightened sensitivity to smells.
The good news is that symptoms usually ease once you stop moving. However, you might still feel the effects of motion sickness for anywhere from a few hours to a few days.

Cold sores are small blisters that appear on or around your mouth, sometimes called 'oral herpes'.
Most cold sores heal on their own within 2 weeks and don't leave scars. However, they're very contagious - even when you can't see any blisters.
You can catch the virus through direct contact with someone who has a cold sore or their bodily fluids. This includes:
• kissing
• touching their skin
• sharing cups, cutlery, towels or toothbrushes.
There's no cure for cold sores, but treatments can help ease the symptoms. Talk to your pharmacist, doctor, or nurse about options that might work for you.

Ear infections happen when germs like bacteria, viruses or fungi get into your ear.
You're more likely to get one when your ear is exposed to germs. This can happen when you're sick with something like a cold, or if you've hurt your ear.
When you have a cold, the infection can travel up a small tube in your ear. This causes a middle ear infection. Babies and young children get these more often because their tubes are smaller.
You can also get an infection in your outer ear (the ear canal). This often happens when water gets trapped in your ear after swimming - that's why it's called swimmer's ear.
Different ear infections need different treatments depending on what type it is and where. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist to find out what's best for you.

This one goes out to the migraine sufferers, you’re the real MVPs.
Some people find that migraine attacks are triggered by certain things, including:
✔️ missing meals (this is the strongest dietary trigger)
✔️ eating certain foods, such as cheese, chocolate, citrus, red wine and food additives
✔️ altered sleep patterns (too much or too little sleep)
✔️ changes in the weather
✔️ hormonal changes, such as menstruation and the oral contraceptive pill
✔️ alcoholic drinks (especially red wine and beer).
You cannot cure migraine, but it can be managed once you find the right combination of tools or medications that work for you.
If you experience more than 3 migraine attacks per month, speak to your GP for advice.
