Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of preventable blindness.

In its early stages, it often has no symptoms and can only be detected through a comprehensive eye examination.

At George & Matilda Eyecare, our practices use advanced OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) technology to help detect and monitor glaucoma early, often before vision is affected.

OCT provides detailed images of the retina and optic nerve, allowing us to spot subtle changes sooner. It can also assist in detecting other eye conditions such as macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease.

World Glaucoma Week is an important reminder that early diagnosis is key. The sooner glaucoma is detected, the more vision we can help protect.

✨What is an OCT?✨

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive device that uses light waves to take scans of the front and back of your eye. With the OCT, we can see all the individual layers of the retina and monitor any changes to the fibres of the optic nerve. We can use the OCT to detect and monitor many conditions including, but not limited to; age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, corneal conditions, and even eye cancers!

It is a fast, painless, and important test that helps us ensure your eyes stay as healthy as possible 👁️
