In our culture we often spend so much time preparing for the birth itself. But the early months of parenthood deserve just as much care, thought, and tenderness.

As Multiple Birth Awareness week draws to a close, I invite you to sit quietly with a few gentle questions:

What support do I need to feel truly held during the early months of parenthood?

What needs might I need help meeting: physically, emotionally, practically?

What do I want those early days with my babies to feel like?

There are no perfect answers. Only the beginning of a conversation with yourself about the kind of care that will nourish you as you care for your little ones.

Parenthood was never meant to be walked alone. It is something that unfolds most beautifully in community with a diverse circle of partners, family, friends, doulas, lactation consultants, doctors, and the many quiet hands that help hold a growing family.

To all the families of twins, triplets, and multiples who have shared their stories this week, your strength, adaptability, and love are something truly special.

May you feel supported.
May you feel nourished.
May you feel held.

During Multiple Birth Awareness Week, I find myself reflecting on the extraordinary families who welcome two, three or sometimes more babies earthside at once.

It's deeply humbling to witness the early days of life with multiples: tiny beings learning the rhythms of the world and a mother learning to nourish them all with her body, whether that means breastfeeding, or simply rocking, soothing, bathing, cuddling, & being skin to skin.

Choosing to breastfeed or chestfeed multiples asks a great deal of you along the way. Your body is recovering from pregnancy and birth while learning to produce milk. Feeding patterns can feel constant in those early weeks, and finding a rhythm that works for everyone takes patience, experimentation, and a great deal of tenderness toward yourself. When the pieces begin to settle, there can be such a quiet magic in it. Babies nestled close, nourished together, your body responding in its own remarkable way to the needs of all.

What makes the greatest difference in your journey is support.

A postpartum doula can help you gently find your way, by guiding you to explore feeding positions that feel comfortable, protecting your rest where possible, supporting your partner, and helping you design a rhythm that is truly sustainable for your body and your family.

Nurturing new life happens in community and in shared wisdom. Whether breastfeeding or not, every woman deserves support to figure out what's the best way forward.

Bringing two or more babies into the world at once is something to deeply respect and celebrate. Families of multiples carry such strength & adaptability.

I just love this beautiful image by , shared via Australian Birth Stories. It captures the devotion of mothering multiples, and the profound capacity of the human body to nurture new life.

🍒 Multiples Birth Awareness Week

This week we honour the incredible journeys of families welcoming twins, triplets and higher-order multiples into the world.

Multiple pregnancies carry their own unique rhythms often filled with excitement, complexity, extra monitoring, and many decisions along the way. For many parents it can also bring a mix of joy, vulnerability, and the need for strong support around them.

Behind every multiples birth is a mother navigating an extraordinary physical and emotional experience, and babies arriving into a family that will quickly learn the art of caring for more than one tiny human at once.

This week is a moment to recognise the strength of these families, the importance of informed care, and the village that surrounds them partners, practitioners, doulas, midwives, and community.

To the mothers growing two or more babies, the parents learning the rhythm of feeding, settling and loving more than one at a time... we see you.

Your journey is remarkable.

With care and admiration 💕

Didn’t have a birth doula? You can still receive postnatal support.

Many families assume that if they didn’t have a doula at the birth, they’ve somehow missed the window for support.

But postnatal care stands on its own.

Some parents plan support during pregnancy, while others reach out weeks, sometimes months after their baby arrives, when the reality of sleepless nights, feeding challenges, recovery and the emotional transition into parenthood begins to settle in.

Postnatal support can look many different ways. Sometimes it’s practical help. Sometimes it’s guidance with feeding or settling. Sometimes it’s simply having an experienced, calm presence in the room who understands this season of life.

You don’t have to have had a birth doula to receive that kind of care. Support in the early months of parenting is never too late. Link in bio for more information regarding postnatal support.

Today is International Women's Day!
What does IWD mean to you?

"There is nothing quite like the sisterhood, love and connection that can be fostered amongst woman. We have so much capacity to nurture, lift up and support one another when needed. I want to celebrate all the woman around the world that deeply inspire me to do and be better. I also want to celebrate the great achievements of woman in our past and present that have tirelessly fought for more equality and humanity, highlighting disparities and improving pathways for all women young and old."

Birth Debriefing — Why it matters

Birth—whether smooth or complicated—can leave us with stories that linger in our hearts and minds. Sometimes we hold questions. Sometimes memories don’t match our expectations. Sometimes relief and confusion mingle.

That’s why birth debriefing matters. It offers a safe, compassionate space to reflect on your birth, to honour what you experienced, to gently process emotions and begin healing.

At Nurtured Birth, we believe every parent deserves to have their birth story acknowledged with tenderness and care. With Sarah Goldberg, birth debriefing is at your pace.

Because reflection helps you reclaim meaning. Understanding helps you reclaim peace.

🐎🔥 Year of the Fire Horse 2026 🔥🐎

2026 welcomes the Year of the Fire Horse in the Chinese zodiac.
A rare and powerful combination that carries strong symbolism for the babies born under this sign.

The Horse represents freedom, vitality, movement, independence, and spirit.
When paired with the Fire element, these qualities are amplified.

Babies born in the Year of the Fire Horse are said to carry
strong inner drive
boldness and courage
natural leadership
a passionate, expressive nature
a deep desire for autonomy and truth

Fire Horse energy is dynamic and alive. These children are often spirited from the very beginning. Curious, expressive, and determined, with a strong sense of self and an innate momentum toward life.

This is not quiet energy.
It is forward moving.
Visionary.
Heart led.

Fire Horse children are thought to bring change and momentum wherever they go. They often arrive with big personalities, strong wills, and a powerful life force that invites those around them to grow too.

The image we’re sharing is “Study of a Horse” by Xu Beihong, with inscription by Zhang Anzhi.

Xu Beihong’s horses are iconic in Chinese art, symbolising strength, integrity, freedom, and the untamed spirit. His brushwork captures not just the form of the horse, but its energy and soul, qualities that feel beautifully aligned with the Fire Horse year.

For families welcoming babies in 2026, this is a year that speaks of courage, vitality, and powerful beginnings.

May these babies be supported to express their fire gently.
May their strength be met with safety.
And may their spirit be honoured from the very beginning. 🤍

What is a doula? ✨

The word doula was virtually unheard of a decade ago. Yet doulas have been present at birth since the beginning of humankind. Traditionally, a doula is a woman who offers support to birthing women. In many cultures around the world, this can be a mother, sister or aunt, neighbour or wise woman with lots of birth experience.

Today, a doula is a trained birth companion who offers non-medical support through pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. This is called continuity of care, and research has shown doula support has many positive benefits for women, their babies and their families. A doula doesn’t replace your medical team, she enhances your care with presence, advocacy and calm.

A doula is someone who walks beside you through pregnancy, labour and birth, offering continuous emotional, physical and informational support, advocating for your preferences and desires every step of the way.

At Nurtured Birth, Sarah Goldberg brings compassion, steadiness and decades of experience to help you feel safe, informed and deeply supported as you move toward meeting your baby.

If you’re seeking a more connected, grounded birth experience, this may be the missing piece. ✨

We just love this beautiful photo from showing a baby’s first gift from the womb

When babies are born, you might notice a creamy white coating on their skin. This is vernix caseosa. Vernix begins forming around 20 weeks gestation and increases in the last trimester. By birth, it acts as a natural moisturiser, keeping delicate skin soft as babies transition from the watery environment of the womb to the dry air outside.

It also provides a protective barrier against infection, with antibacterial properties that help shield newborns in their first hours of life. Vernix can even help regulate body temperature and ease the transition for newborn skin, which is adjusting to a whole new world.

Washing it away too quickly can remove these natural benefits. Most guidelines now suggest waiting at least 24 hours before a full bath (sometimes longer) allowing vernix to continue supporting baby’s skin and wellbeing.

Vernix is a gift that gives more than just physical benefits. Holding your baby close, feeling their warmth, and breathing in their newborn scent while their skin is still coated in vernix can support early attachment and breastfeeding.

There is no rush. Vernix is a gentle reminder that our babies are born with everything they need to begin life safely, softly, and nurtured. What gifts are you celebrating today? ✨
