I’m so excited to be hanging out with Dr Kestenberg tomorrow.

Dr K is well known around the country for treating tethered oral tissues (aka tongue and lip ties). He has invited me to his practice for observation tomorrow. I’m really looking forward to learning more about how he assesses and treats ties.

If you’re concerned about tongue or lip ties (e.g. speech issues, feeding concerns etc), book in for an assessment.

Is your child difficult to understand or do they have trouble pronouncing some sounds clearly?

Book in for an articulation screening assessment.

A screening assessment is a less expensive alternative to a full assessment.

Your child’s articulation will be assessed and you will be provided with feedback and strategies.

Send me a message now to find out more.

📚📕📖 Language and literacy assessments 📖📕📚

✅ School holiday appointments available ✅

If you’ve received your child’s school report and have concerns about their progress, the school holidays would be a great time to have a language and/or literacy assessment to rule out any underlying concerns, identify some goals and get the ball rolling for term 3.

Your child will receive a full assessment and you will be provided with feedback and a summary report with strategies and recommendations if required.

I have several appointments available in the second week of the school holidays.

Get in touch now to discuss your child’s needs and secure an appointment.

The humble wooden block:
Even with all the brightly coloured, flashing and singing toys available on the market today, the humble wooden block remains a toy box staple.
If they’re not in your child’s toy collection, here’s just a few of the reasons why they should be:

· Cause and effect: stack too high, the blocks fall. Not gentle enough, the blocks fall. Place a block too close to the edge, the blocks fall.

· Turn-taking: one of the underlying pre-verbal skills on which we build communication. Effective communication revolves around taking turns. Stacking blocks can be a lovely, engaging turn taking activity

· Attention/concentration and perseverance: making a tall tower needs perseverance and the ability to stay on task. If the tower falls, having the determination to start building again helps to develop resilience.

· Language opportunities: up, up, up anddddd crash! More. My turn, your turn.

· Numeracy: Counting the blocks as you go allows a child to relate rote learned numbers to a visual reference, increasing their understanding of what those numbers actually mean

· Hand-eye co-ordination, spatial awareness and fine motor skills: Learning to manipulate the blocks in the right way and placing them in the best position to avoid making the tower topple are great ways to help develop fine motor skills, hand-eye co-ordination and spatial awareness.

· Co-operation: working together to build a tower can teach children to co-operate to meet a shared goal

And last but not least: FUN!!

Have you received your child's school reports yet?
Are there any areas of concern?

Children who are struggling to learn literacy skills or having difficulty keeping up with the classroom curriculum may have an underlying phonological awareness or language delay.

You might like to consider a language and phonological awareness assessment to make sure your child has the skills needed to help them access the curriculum to their full potential.

Following the assessment, a full report with recommendations will be provided. Ongoing sessions are also available to address any concerns.

Channeling The Doctor to get me through this freezing morning of admin work.
There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes to make sure your child’s sessions are ready to go!

Today’s edition of funny things kids say:

Me: “I’m starting to get a bit tired of nobody listening to me in this house”

Mr 5: “So... are we going to get a new house then?”

Have your kids said anything funny lately?
