We’ve added a curlew to our waterhole painting 🤍

The Eastern Curlew visits our coasts and is listed as critically endangered under the EPBC Act due to major population declines.

Here in the Whitsundays (including the Mackay region), the curlews you’re most likely to encounter are:

– the Bush Stone-curlew, a resident bird often seen and heard at night
– the Beach Stone-curlew, a coastal species listed as endangered in Australia
– and seasonally, Eastern Curlew along mudflats and coastal wetlands

The Bush Stone-curlew is not listed as threatened under the EPBC Act, although it is declining in some areas. The Beach Stone-curlew, however, is much rarer and nationally endangered, making it a very special coastal species.

A quiet reminder of how important it is to protect these birds and the habitats they depend on 🌿

THIS FRIDAY Whitsunday Leisure Activity Centre is hosting the Sausage Sizzle @ Bunnings Airlie Beach to raise money for our monthly outings, activities and our Centre in Proserpine that operates 5 days a week to support seniors and people living with disabilities.

We have your smoko/lunch sorted!

Come down, grab a hot snag, a cold drink and have a chat.

Show your support for this must needed organisation. We will be set up and ready to go by 9am and cooking until mid afternoon.

Good afternoon, footy season is back and WLAC are keen as! Any participants wanting to participate in NRL footy tipping, you have til Thursday 3pm to get your tips in for round 1 (as 2 games have been played 0 points will be recorded for these) Please see Mel or the office for a tipping sheet. For each round your tips must be in by Thursday 3pm, if no tips submitted you will automatically be put down for the away teams to win. Prizes up for grabs at the end of the season!
