Position Title: Male Disability Support Workers
Location: Devonport, Tasmania
Employment Type: Casual / Part-Time / Full-Time (Rotating Roster)
Award: NDIS SCHADS Award Level 2.1
About the Role:
We are seeking reliable, culturally sensitive, and hands-on male support workers to join a dedicated care team within a Supported Independent Living (SIL) property in Devonport. This role is ideal for individuals who are blokey, down-to-earth, and relatable, with a genuine passion for supporting people with disabilities through a trauma-informed and person-centered approach.
You will be part of a rotating roster, working collaboratively with other team members to provide consistent, respectful, and empowering support to participants in their home and community environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide high-quality, person-centered support to individuals with disabilities in a SIL setting.
Support participants with daily living activities, emotional regulation, and community engagement.
Build strong, respectful relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
Understand and respond to trauma-related behaviours with empathy and consistency.
Work collaboratively with families, allied health professionals, and other support staff.
Accurately document shift notes and incident reports in a timely manner.
Uphold cultural sensitivity and respect diverse backgrounds and identities.
Essential Criteria:
Male applicants only (genuine occupational requirement under Section 42 of the Anti-Discrimination Act).
Current NDIS Worker Screening Check.
Current National Police Clearance.
Understanding of trauma-informed care and person-centered practice.
Willingness to learn and engage in ongoing professional development.
Ability to work within a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays.
Strong interpersonal skills and a “can-do” attitude.
Physically capable and confident in providing active support.
Desirable:
Previous experience in disability support or related fields.
Knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and/or other culturally diverse communities.
Certificate III or IV in Disability, Community Services, or equivalent (or working towards).
