You know this is MEDICINE, right?
Cosmetic medicine, also known as aesthetic medicine, is a medical specialty focused on improving a person's appearance through non-surgical procedures. These procedures aim to address issues like skin aging, fine lines, wrinkles, and other aesthetic concerns.
It is NOT trivial.
You need an experienced health practitioner (must be a Registered Nurse, Doctor or Dentist) who actually does these treatments day in day out. Someone who prioritises patient safety, follows the industrys strict compliance, and takes training and ongoing professional development seriously.
Someone who has medical experience who will take care of you in the very unlikely event that something goes wrong. (ALL our treatments come with risks and side effects). NOT someone who does it as an on-the-side gig or someone who just says yes to make quick $.
This may sound dramatic, but with the current issues Qld are facing regarding compliance, which could very well affect NSW and ACT soon, it's time people appreciate that what we so is not just a "beauty" thing. It's not a haircut or lashes or a relaxing facial. We're dealing with drugs. Schedule 4 medications that need a script by a medical doctor for good reason.
Over the last decade or so, our industry has been streamlined with the availability of telehealth and boom in chain and boutique clinics, meaning accessibility of these treatments has never been easier. This has certainly got benefits to the patient who wants a "quick-fix," but unfortunately, it's totally trivialised what is and should be recognised as a specialist area of medicine.
Next time you have a non-surgical cosmetic treatment, ask your nurse or doctor about their experience, how they will support you if there is an issue, how they stay up-to-date and compliant.
