Candis Plan Support Disability & aged care services

Offering a range of NDIS funded services to Participants that have a Plan-managed or Self-managed funding model within a current NDIS Plan.

03/06/2022

Candis Plans has the absolute pleasure of supporting Tony with his NDIS journey.

Candi first met and commenced supporting Tony & Angie in 2009 and since then, has been in complete awe of Tony's major achievements, skills, charisma, strength and determination, and Angie's unconditional love and support for Tony. Whilst Tony and Angie have battled more obstacles than the average people, they are determined to enjoy life.

Tony is an inspiration and we look forward to supporting him well in to the future. Angie is a fierce and determined advocate, being Tony's eyes, ears and voice, ensuring he lives a life with endless possibilities.

The quality of Tony's workmanship is second to none. We hope to see Tony open his own successful business in the near future - watch this space.

Today is International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD).

Here at Candis Plans, we celebrate people with disability today and every day by placing participant choice and control at the forefront of everything we do and supporting people to live the life they choose.
Your Life. Your Plan. Your Way.

This year’s theme is “‘Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world.”

Whilst we celebrate today we also know that disability inclusion must go much further than today. We constantly strive for more possibilities for our participants.
More inclusion. Today. Everyday.

We look forward to welcoming 2022 and all the possibilities the new year will bring. We have lots of ideas that we are excited to share with you next year but we also welcome any suggestions you may have to promote disability inclusion and awareness within the community.

Here's some really useful, up-to-date information about using your NDIS funds to purchase a smart device

https://www.facebook.com/181990485156269/posts/4057034017651877/

We know lots of people still have questions about buying smart devices with their NDIS funds.

We have been sending your questions through to the NDIA - and today they updated the information on the NDIS website.

So just in case you missed it:

📌 If you have a budget for consumables, you can use that to purchase a smart device like a tablet or iPad. For most people, a standard tablet should do the trick. If you don't have enough funds in consumables, you can top up from your core funds.

📌 If you don't have a budget for consumables you need to wait until May 9. On that day the NDIS will introduce a change to their system so that you can use another category in core.

📌 If you don't have enough funds in core you can use capacity building funds. There is a new line item you can use in the price guide.

📌 If you are self managed or plan managed you can buy from any provider. Agency managed participants must use a registered provider.

📌 You need a letter from a provider confirming you need the device or the equipment. Not a full blown assessment just a letter explaining what you need. That letter can either be uploaded to the portal or you can email it to enquiries@ndis.gov.au. Or your provider can do that for you.

📌 This new policy will cover all purchases made after April 1.

This is just a summary of the information released today. There is much more info on the NDIS website about what you can purchase and how to go about it.

You can find all the questions and answers here - https://www.ndis.gov.au/coronavirus/participants-coronavirus-covid-19/using-your-budget

And you can find our helpful summary here - https://everyaustraliancounts.com.au/smart-devices-tablets-ipads-the-ndia-get-their-act-together-finally/

Some really really REALLY good news from the NDIS this morning …

NDIA General Manager Scott McNaughton used the Zoom forum at Every Australian Counts this morning to let everyone know that the NDIS is changing its policy regarding devices like iPads and tablets.

You can now purchase a device with your NDIS funds if:

📱 You don’t already have a similar device
💻 You need it for support or therapy
🖥 It has not been funded through another system (like education)

So you can’t use it just to binge on Netflix.

But you can use it for things like therapy or to join an exercise class or to learn a new skill with a support worker.

(And we would add you probably need to find the cheapest suitable option - if you need to buy a particular kind of device you will probably need to explain why)

The NDIS website says there will be more information released soon.

In the meantime you can find the question and the answer here - https://www.ndis.gov.au/coronavirus/participants-coronavirus-covid-19/using-your-budget

It is really good to see that the NDIS is listening and being more flexible to help everyone get through this really difficult time

With changing circumstances the way you may be using your plan budgets is also changing.

Breaking news out of the NDIS this afternoon ...

The NDIA are making changes to their system over the weekend to make sure NDIS participants and their families have what they need to manage the impact of the Coronavirus.

There's lots of info but here's the main points:

👉 Plans will no longer end. If your plan is due to end soon and you still have not heard anything it will automatically extend for 365 days.

👉 You will not have to do anything - it will automatically extend for a year.

👉If you have a plan review scheduled you will be called on the phone. If you are happy you can have a new plan for up to 24 months.

👉 If you don't currently have support coordination in your plan but would like to so you manage everything over the coming months you can use your core funding to pay for a support coordinator. There are now new line items in the price guide to pay for this.

👉 If you need more funds to do this you will need to ask for a review

👉 A new price guide was also released today to cover the new prices announced on the weekend (yes we heard you all groan)

You can find all today's announcements here - https://www.ndis.gov.au/news/4676-covid-19-updates

These are really really helpful changes that we are relieved to see. We know it doesn't solve lots of things for lots of people - but it is a great step forward.

There will be more to come.

UPDATE: There's another new page called "What happens when..." at https://www.ndis.gov.au/understanding/ndis-and-other-government-services/ndis-and-disaster-response/what-happens-when - it has some new answers we've all been asking, but we'll keep seeking more answers.

The NDIA understands that coronavirus (COVID-19) may significantly impact providers. To help you to continue to deliver supports to participants through this time, the NDIA is introducing a number of changes.
