At work, we’re often tasked with providing medical support teams at major events. Sometimes we’ve worked alongside Government emergency Agencies (Ambulance Service, Fire, Rural Fire, SES, Police), so it’s important to retain a functional Command & Control System in place, that can also mesh in with these other agencies if needs be.

Here we have our ICS (Incident Control Systems) Identification Board, especially used when we have medical teams at large events.

The badges have Velcro backing and are used on our ICS Vests to identify a medic in what role they have

Name
Clinical / operational role
Command function (as applicable)

The first row is upper echelon commanders

¥X0 Chief Officer
¥0 Deputy Chief Officer
XX0 Chief Superintendent
X0 Superintendent
0 Inspector

(@) Warrant Officer 1 (deleted)
@ Warrant officer 2 (deleted)

The next row includes zone officers

### Group Officer
XX Deputy Group Officer
X Officer

Then we see front line leaders

/// Station Officer
// Crew Leader
/ Deputy Crew Leader

After that we see Clinical Roles

Registered Paramedic
Registered Nurse
Advanced Life Support Medic
Endorsed Enrolled Nurse
General Duties Medic
First Responder
Student
Doctor

And finally, our support members

Patient Transport
Logistics
Welfare
Triage
Communications

This wall hanger goes to each job and the appropriate badges are distributed for that event to each team member in their functional role.

Sadly, the Groovin’ the Moo music festival has been cancelled in 2024 - the entire tour.

First Aid Services had been providing Event Medical Teams to each Canberra event (2010-2019, 2022 & 2023)

I’d like to thank our team members across the years, and, to festival organisers for engaging us for each and every event held in Canberra.

Chief Officer

Firstly let me say Merry Christmas and wishing everyone a very happy New Year.

I’d like to take the opportunity here to publicly thank my staff for their efforts over the last four months.

In late August I suffered a Stroke, and spent 3 1/2 months in hospital. I was home in time for Christmas with my family.

During this time in hospital , key personnel have stepped up and have been working had to keep operations running as close to business as usual as you can get.

I will be back on deck by the end of January 2024, but in a reduced capacity for light duties.

Special mention goes to Luke, our Regional Superintendent, for looking after Patient Transport Services and Event Medical Services.

Looking forward to getting back into the swing of things in 2024

Best regards

Today, one of our medical teams has travelled out to the NSW regional town of Barellan for the Annual Show.

We provide on site medical coverage for many small country town events across the State. Many events can’t run without medical coverage, and we are only too happy to help out.

Our ongoing dispute with the Territory Government over their mishandling of our licencing in 2022 simply drags on.

The agency concerned (at the time) did. It process our renewal (for the second time in 4 years) by way of negligence in their part.

We’d asked to have the issue resolved.

Whilst it was sorted (and our licence renewed) we had lodge complaint with the Minister and Chief Minister as well as the Opposition.

The chief officer of the relevant agency eventually held an online video meeting with our Chief Officer. The agency chief apologised verbally and promised to rectify problems.

This has been 18 months and despite our requests we have still not been notified of

• changes in the system of dealing with private ambulance providers
• changes in the system for contacts between private providers and the ACT Government
• written report on the agency’s mishandling of our licencing
• written apology from the Chief Officer

Essentially, whilst we are expected to jump through hoops and deliver relevant documentation and evidences on-time to meet compliance, the ACT Government, it’s Agency and Officers clearly do not have the same responsibility as they see fit, and we regard this as duplicitous in nature, disrespectful let alone negligent.

We have sought meetings with the officers concerned and to date still have heard nothing.

Starting to wonder if after 14yrs it’s still worth dealing with the Government and it’s Hubris.
