This National Stroke Week, from August 4-10, we have a powerful opportunity to save lives within our community.

A stroke is always a medical emergency, but it doesn't have to be a death sentence. The speed at which a stroke is recognised and treated is the single most important factor in a person's outcome. The faster the action, the better the chance of recovery. This is why knowing the F.A.S.T. signs is not just helpful… it's a critical, life-saving skill.

F.A.S.T. = The Life-Saving Signs

Recognising a stroke is simpler than you think. The F.A.S.T. acronym is an easy way to remember the key signs. Share this with your colleagues, your patients, and your loved ones—your mum, dad, partner, and friends.

* Face: Check their face. Has their mouth drooped?
* Arms: Can they lift both arms?
* Speech: Is their speech slurred? Do they understand you?
* Time: Time is critical. If you see any of these signs, call 000 (triple zero) straight away.

Never hesitate to call for help. Immediate action is the first step toward recovery, and it's a step that anyone can take.

Diabetes is a progressive condition that, over time, can contribute to reduced mobility, muscular de-conditioning, delayed wound healing, and a decline in functional independence.

Our General Reconditioning Programs, available across Macquarie Health Corporation’s network of nine accredited hospitals, are designed to support individuals managing chronic conditions such as diabetes.

Through targeted rehabilitation, these programs aim to improve physical capacity, restore energy, and reduce secondary health risks associated with functional decline.

Our multidisciplinary allied health teams—including physiotherapists, dietitians, and specialist nurses—collaborate to deliver coordinated, patient-centred care with measurable clinical outcomes.

This Diabetes Awareness Week, we encourage healthcare professionals, patients, and families to explore the role of reconditioning in chronic disease management.
