Are you worried about 'weird' ingredients in Chinese herbs (think endangered animals and toxic plants)? I predominantly use Natural Path products which are organic and vegan, with no chemical additives and no fillers. Any animal ingredients that were used in the classical recipes have been replaced with plant ingredients that have similar effects and which modern research shows to be just as valuable.

Natural Path formulas are known for always delivering the expected results from bottle to bottle and have exceptional quality control. The plant ingredients are made in an FDA-inspected facility utilzing aseptic GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certified methods, achieving an international standard of excellence in the pharmaceutical industry.

Unlike other companies, the plants are grown on plantations organically under ideal soil, light and moisture conditions, and harvested at the perfect moment. All this ensures that the active ingredients of the herbs are at their maximum levels in every batch. It also means the herbs are sourced using sustainable ecologically sound practice.

And as a bonus, these herbs are highly concentrated, meaning smaller doses for you to add to your dogs food!

Frankie after his acupuncture - oh so chilled out!
We are helping Frankie with some anxious behaviour at home, adding acupuncture and Chinese herbs to help him feel calm. His owner is amazing at providing lots of puzzle toys, walks, visits to doggy day-care and regular training to help Frankie with this too. Luckily he is such a gorgeous gentleman who is worth every bit of the effort put in by his 'team' of carers!

BUT MY DOG DOESN'T LIKE NEEDLES!

Most dogs tolerate the very fine acupuncture needles well - they are very different and less painful than the needles used to give injections.

Usually I start with some calming essential oils dabbed onto a few acupuncture points, then use a couple of needles in the calming points to further relax your pet.

But if they really don't like needles, we have the option of using a laser over the acupuncture points or sore area, or using Aquapuncture - which is injecting a small amount of Vitamin B12 or saline into the acupuncture point.

I often use a combination of all techniques, and the B12 Aquapuncture helps to extend out the effect of the acupuncture, plus has positive effects on the immune and neurologic systems.

Remember Peppa the cute as a button Frenchie? This is her on her trip up to Queensland recently. Her mum says "She's been going really really well. We're walking lots and riding lots too. Peppa's Nana has made an insert for her bike seat so she's a lot more comfortable. Thank you Sophie for making us all have such a great trip. Peppa couldn't have done it without you!" How awesome is that? Messages like this makes me SO happy, it's the reason I do what I do ☺️

Coco is a gorgeous 9 year old Maltese Cross. Late last year she had an episode of severe back pain and wobbliness in her back legs and was diagnosed with suspected intervertebral disc disease. Luckily Coco improved without the need for surgery, but it has been a long road to recovery with her amazing and VERY dedicated owners. Coco has regular physiotherapy sessions and has her own exercise equipment at home so she can keep strong in her back legs. She also had many months of weekly underwater treadmill sessions to help her regain her mobility. We have recently added acupuncture and Chinese Herbs to improve her mobility and reduce episodes of back pain. She is a super smart girl, she gets very excited at her visits – mainly for the treats!! - then she knows when it’s time for acupuncture and tries to eat the treats but sneak away from the needles! She had a lovely relaxing session yesterday with the addition of an essential oil based Joint and Muscle Rub massage.

This is Peppa - named after Peppa Pig - which is perfect, as she snuffles like a little piglet when she is having her licki mat! She is so intent on getting every last little bit of yumminess from the licki mat, she doesn't notice the acupuncture needles, then she sits back and does a lovely big burp 😄
Peppa is such a sweetheart, she loves a belly rub and follows me out to the car just in case any extra treats miraculously appear!

Peppa has been treated for suspected intervertebral disc disease and back pain. She's been going wonderfully well and now trots around happily and has improved strength in her back legs. She no longer needs the anti-inflammatory medication and takes Chinese herbs to help keep her comfortable. Her dedicated owner does strengthening exercises with her daily to help maintain the muscle mass in her back legs.

Here she is having electroacupuncture an provide stronger stimulation than just the acupuncture needles alone. She also gets Vitamin B12 acupuncture to extend the effects of the needles.

This is Bessie. Bessie thinks she is a lap dog..!!

She is a super sweet young Labrador who has lots of enthusiasm for everything (especially her licki mat). She has partially damaged the cruciate ligament in her knee, leading to swelling, discomfort and lameness. She also has compensatory tension in her lower back from her altered gait. To start with, we are treating Bessie with acupuncture, laser therapy and Chinese herbs. Once she is more comfortable and the joint swelling has resolved, we will start targeted exercises to improve strength in the affected back leg.

Herbs have been shown to resolve chronic inflammation and boost circulation to enhance the rate of repair in partial cruciate ligament tears. Ligament repair includes a prolonged remodelling phase in which the tensile strength of collagen slowly increases, so we need to protect this ligament (and the ligament in the other knee) in the healing period by also feeding a good quality unprocessed fresh food diet, keeping Bessie at a lean bodyweight and avoiding high impact exercise.

She is the perfect patient and after her acupuncture she likes to get a nice belly rub before finishing off a few more treats :)

This is one of my gorgeous patients Sandy, who has idiopathic epilepsy. She is such a sweetheart and LOVES her treats and licki mat while the acupuncture needles are placed. We are also providing support for Sandy with Medicinal CBD oil and a balanced fresh food diet with high medium chain triglyceride (MCT) fat content. She gets pretty stressed in the vet clinic, so she loves having her treatment at home on the couch - here she is feeling relaxed after her acupuncture 😊
