Motherground

Motherground Supporting women through life’s big transitions. Gentle guidance + real conversations.
💌 For 1:1 online counselling w Jasmin pls msg.

Our aim at Motherground is for you to experience a nourishing break that offers you the opportunity to unwind, relax and reconnect. We believe mums need just as much love and care as their babies do. We nurture the nurturer, and offer a restful break that is just as rejuvenating for you as it is for your baby. New mums can experience feeling exhausted, overwhelmed and often unprepared for life with a baby. So much energy and preparation is given to the pregnancy and birth process, but not many people talk openly about the realities of motherhood. Women often underestimate just how different their lives will become once their baby is born. Let’s face it, nothing can prepare you for the massive life change you experience as a new mother. It can be such a large shift reconciling your vision of motherhood with the reality and often an adjustment of expectations is needed. Motherground is a place where you can come to relax and let go while being fully supported. Let us help you to consciously find the time and energy to connect with your baby and be present in each moment. We invite mums and their babies up to two years old, to come away for either a one day mini retreat or a three day/two night ultimate retreat and be taken care of. This is a time for rest, rejuvenation and invaluable bonding with your baby. Join an intimate group of mothers and their babies while being supported by an amazing team of female health & wellbeing practitioners. Included in your retreat package are on-site personal nannies, available to care for your baby when you need time out, allowing you to enjoy a massage, hot cup of tea by the fire or a walk amongst nature. You will have a chance to be involved in several activities and workshops on offer, all designed to enhance your mothering journey and deeply recharge you.

Ten years ago today, I drove up the winding hill to a retreat centre in Red Hill with my 11-month-old son in the backseat, and my beautiful friend (with her own baby) by my side. My heart was pounding, my stomach knotted with nerves. I kept asking myself “Who am I to be doing this?”

I was about to welcome a group of new mums and their babies to the very first Motherground Retreat- a space I had been dreaming up for months, because I knew it was so needed. A gentle place where mums could arrive, put their bags down, feel seen, valued, be nurtured and completely cared for, while keeping their babies close.

I had everything planned down to the minute… until I didn’t.
As we gathered around the table for our first meal, I looked around at the crying babies, the mamas juggling feeding, nappy changes, sleeping schedules and I paused and realised~ ahh yes, this is exactly what motherhood can look like, an unpredictable, beautiful hot mess.
So I scrapped the schedule.
Instead, I invited us all to take off the masks we wore 🎭 let go of the concept of perfection, and simply ‘be’- messy, tired, teary, joyful, and everything in between (& there’s so much in between).

That moment set the tone for Motherground from then on. It would become a place where all parts of motherhood would be welcome. A place of connection, honesty, and care.

Since then, I had the privilege of supporting over 100 women and families through retreats across Australia, and even took Motherground all the way to England 💛

Now, ten years on, as my little boy is about to turn 11, I look back with so much appreciation. The lessons and challenges of motherhood keep changing, but the need for spaces of true connection remains.

And as for what comes next… it is ever evolving.

I now offer counselling sessions for mums navigating all stages of the motherhood journey. If you’d like to reach out you can share your expression of interest through the link in the bio.

If you’d have a memory of a Motherground retreat you were part of, drop me a note here, I’d love to hear from you.
Here’s to the next chapter ✨

Motherhood, womanhood, life~ none of it comes with a roadmap. Some days feel expansive, others feel like survival. I know this first hand.

The best part is, you don’t need to do it on your own.

Through counselling I offer a grounded space to process, reflect and find some anchoring.

If you’d like to explore this together, please drop me a line via the form (link in bio) and I’ll be in touch with you very soon.

This blew my mind

A miraculous reminder that we can indeed do very hard things, even when we’re sure we can’t. Even when we can’t muster putting one foot in front of the next.
And the other reminder, the kid will always follow its mother.

Is everyone doing okay?
I have been remaining pretty positive for the most part. But lockdown after lockdown, and not having much notice anymore before we have all our freedoms shut off has hit me hard.
I’m feeling like a massive f**k-off surrender is in order but it’s really hard because I don’t want to surrender and accept this is how life is for now.

I read yesterday that Victorian’s should embrace for 1 out of 4 days being the lockdown average for the remainder of the year. And that possible reality has got me feeling a bit down.

I’m getting cabin fever, have grown bloody bored of my 5km radius, am yearning for nature- ocean and trees. Some sort of environmental freedom at least might be a remedy for city living at the moment. This morning I dropped into a manic frenzy where I couldn’t stand anything being on the floor- so I’ve tipped all chairs upside down onto the table, as my mum used to do, in prep for a robust vacuum and deep scrubbing of floors.
I know what I need when I’m out of balance like this..but being kind, going slow and allowing all the yuk to just be isn’t always easy.

So, I’ve jumped on my bike, hit the track and now waiting for a coffee while I write this. The Waifs ‘London still’ is playing in the outdoor cafe and there’s naive and beautiful chooks cluck clucking away, unaware of this pandemic and the confused humans roaming around them.

Not much more to say other than as tokenistic and empty as it sounds, it still is kinda true- we are still all in this together, muddling our way through, messy AF but maybe there’s a few things we can all learn along the way..

Coffee ready..

This is your invitation to vent here too>>….

O X Y G E N
just in case you’re feeling low on the air you need to breathe through your day, here’s a reminder to pause and give yourself whatever you can in this moment, so you can fill up your lungs, and find your ground once more.

Whilst playing Doctors this morning, Paddington Bear paid me a visit.

Poor Bear looked so very tired, carrying this big heavy bag. So full of stuff that Bear even toppled right over, face planted and then cried, felt embarrassed and guilty.

I helped Bear up. It was hard to stand up straight. The bag is weighty!
We spoke for a while (mostly I) and then I decided to ask my junior medical assistant to please fetch the small fingernail scissors. (Assistant I should add had lost interest in this game a while ago because mummy was just having a deep convo with bear and it didn’t feel like the interactive game he wanted).
Then...
✂️
We cut off the bag. Removed it from the seams.
Bear hadn’t realised how tightly the heavy bag was sewn into the palm of it’s paw.
We thought about that for a little while.
Then we decided that the bag would stay. Because sometimes it has to. However, it would just be over there a bit .. Ready for when Bear has the strength (or inclination) to reach out and pick it up, maybe even carry it for a little bit.
But Bear would decide.

Last picture: Look how light and upright Bear stands now after that release.

I can do that.
You can do that too.

Thanks Paddo for the lesson, come back to visit anytime.

Emotions have to go somewhere. They can’t just be pushed down, or pushed aside.
And Victorian Mamas…
There’s so many emotions right now.

Sadness,
Grief,
Anger,
Overwhelm.

Where do they go?
What do you do with them?

Join me for a special online class especially for all the Victorian mamas right now.

Thursday night at 8pm AEST, we will gather together to use the power of kundalini yoga, music, and movement to shift it all.
This will be a place for you, surrounded by other mamas in the same situation, to FEEL IT ALL.
Allow it to come up, so it can be RELEASED.

And then, we’ll reset.
We’ll breathe.
We’ll remember - you can do this.

Completely FREE.

Introducing the “Collective Pause” hibernation

~ as a friend eloquently coined it yesterday~

Can we talk about some of the positive learnings and insights we’re having during this time of mass panic and anxiety.

What are you doing differently this week?

Maybe there is some hope, a way of doing things differently, a more simplistic approach to Living and Being. Whilst scary and unfamiliar, are you able to peel back a layer or two and notice anything that makes you feels hopeful?
Is there anything you’re doing/noticing that may show signs of enhancing our collective wellbeing?

I’m trying to find a sense of optimism for the way we can live differently into the future, post COVID-19 pandemic, a way that could improve our world, if even ever so slightly. This collective pause could be showing us a lot, of we’re able to look a little deeper..

🐟 🐟
Did you hear about the fish returning to the lagoons and canals in Venice for the first time in decades?!

And what about the wild flowers blooming and and carpeting Rome’s urban parks, to a size normally seen in May.
🌻

Both due to shut downs in traffic and subsequent pollution.
🛑 🚦

I’m slow cooking, reading more with my child, and don’t have too much to rush about for. I’m noticing I’m taking more care, feeling more patient and noticing my inclination to practice kindness much more in each moment.
Maybe that’s what slowing the show right down does ?

Take care, practice kindness, love each other from afar, wash those hands xx
