๐ง Common Myths About Pain
Pain is complex and many of the things weโve been told about it just arenโt true. Letโs clear up a few of the big ones ๐
Myth 1: Pain equals damage
Just because something hurts doesnโt mean youโve caused harm. Pain is an alarm system, not a damage detector, it can be โturned upโ or โdownโ by many factors.
Myth 2: Rest is always best
Short-term rest can help with acute pain or injury but too much rest can actually make things worse. Gentle, progressive movement helps restore confidence, strength and capacity.
Myth 3: Pain is purely physical
Pain isnโt just about tissues, itโs shaped by stress, sleep, mood, beliefs and past experiences. Your brain blends all of this to decide how much pain to produce.
Myth 4: If it hurts, stop immediately
Some discomfort is okay during rehab or training. The goal isnโt zero pain, itโs safe, progressive loading that builds trust in your body again.
๐กThe truth:
Pain is your bodyโs way of protecting you, it doesnโt always mean injury or damage. Understanding that pain is influenced by both the body and the brain helps you move with confidence, manage pain better, and get back to doing what you love.
At Border Osteo & Performance, we help you understand your pain, restore movement, and build long-term resilience so you can move freely and perform at your best.
