🐰 IMPORTANT RABBIT HEALTH ALERT 🐰

RABBIT OWNERS – PLEASE READ

The Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV) is scheduled for release in the Greater Sydney area in the first week of March 2026 as part of pest control programs.

⚠️ This virus is highly contagious and usually fatal for pet rabbits.⚠️

The only effective protection is vaccination with FILAVAC®.

🗓️ WHAT YOU NEED TO DO

✔️ Get your rabbit’s FILAVAC vaccination administered by the end of January 2026
✔️ This timing allows proper immunity before the virus release
✔️ Both indoor and outdoor rabbits are at risk

🩺 WHY IT MATTERS

• RHDV can spread via insects (such as fleas and flies), direct contact between rabbits, predator faeces (dogs, foxes and cats), clothing, food, and the environment
• Many infected rabbits show little to no warning signs
• Once infected, survival rates are very low
• Please note that only rabbits can contract RHDV, native animals and other domestic pets are unaffected by it.

💙 Vaccination is the best way to protect your rabbit. To ensure your rabbit is protected, make sure they are vaccinated by the end of January 2026!

📞 Appointments are limited – please contact us early to avoid missing out.

🐾 Welcome Dr Azad to the team! 🐾

We’re excited to welcome Dr Azad to the Richmond & Wilberforce Vet Hospitals team.

Here’s a quick hello from Azad:

“Hi, I’m Azad! I started my veterinary career overseas and now love being part of the Richmond team. I’m especially passionate about helping anxious pets feel calm and comfortable during their visits.

My favourite animals are dogs, especially dachshunds. I recently adopted one with a broken leg, which has really deepened my interest in gentle handling and recovery care.

Fun fact, when I’m not in the clinic, I’m usually busy with leather-crafting, woodworking, or another DIY project.”

Be sure to say hello when you see Dr Azad in clinic 👋🐶

🔥 HEAT STROKE AWARENESS FOR PETS! 🌞

With the hot weather rolling in, it’s super important to protect our pets from heat stress & heat stroke.
Dogs & cats can overheat much faster than humans, especially brachycephalic breeds, seniors, puppies and overweight pets.

🚩 SIGNS OF HEAT STROKE:

Watch closely for:
• Excessive panting
• Drooling
• Lethargy or wobbliness
• Bright red gums/tongue
• Vomiting or collapse

If you notice any of these - act fast and contact us immediately.

🧊 KEEP THEM COOL

✔ Fresh water available all day
✔ Shade + cool surfaces to rest on
✔ Walk early morning or late evening only
✔ Never leave pets in hot cars!
✔ Offer cool mats, frozen treats or damp towels

💙 We love seeing your pets happy & healthy!

If you’re worried your pet may be overheating, call us straight away.
We’re here to help, always.

🐶🐱 Stay cool and stay safe.

Little Miss Luna came in today for her 2nd puppy vaccination with Dr Steph! 🐶🤍

She was the sweetest little patient full of cuddles, tail wags, and charm. She even got so comfy during her visit that she nodded off right there on the table after her vaccination! 🥹

Vaccinations are a super important part of keeping our furry friends happy and healthy, protecting them from serious diseases like parvovirus, distemper, hepatitis and kennel cough. Regular puppy vaccinations help build strong immunity so they can safely explore the world and meet new friends! 🐾🐶

We can’t wait to see her again for more cuddles at her next visit! 🐶✨

🐶 Meet our newest team member Bindi! 💕

Nurse Tayla’s adorable new puppy came in for a nurse consult today 🩺✨
She was absolutely spoilt with cuddles, kisses, treats, and even an ear clean (which she handled like a champ!).

We’re not sure who enjoyed it more ..Bindi or nurse Claire 🥹🤍
Welcome to the family, little one! 🫶🏻

🐾 This is Teddy, and he LOVES coming to the vet! 💙

Our reception window is technically there to allow our vets and nurses to communicate efficiently during consultations …

…but on Saturday morning, Teddy decided it had a much more important purpose — pats and surprise hellos 🥰

He popped up again (and again!) just to make sure no one missed that handsome face.🐶✨

We’re delighted to share some wonderful news — Dr Tom Winters and his beautiful wife are expecting a baby in November!

We couldn’t be happier for them as they prepare to welcome their little one into the world. It’s such a special time, and we know he will make an incredible dad — just as he is an incredible vet. 🩺🐾

As November approaches, there may be some changes to our rosters to support Dr Winters and his family during this exciting period. We appreciate your understanding if he’s unavailable for consultations around that time.

Please join us in congratulating them on this beautiful new chapter. 🤍

🐱🐾 Happy Vet Nurse Day! 🐾🐶

Today we celebrate the incredible humans who keep our clinic running — our vet nurses!

They are the ones juggling everything from anaesthetic monitoring, blood taking, and X-rays… to cleaning up mystery puddles, cuddling nervous patients, and somehow remembering exactly which dog likes cheese better than liver treats.

They’re the calm voice that comforts anxious owners, the steady hands that save lives, and the beating heart of every vet clinic.

Our nurses wear so many hats — medical professional, counsellor, animal whisperer, cleaner, receptionist, and snack supplier (for both pets and vets 😂).
They do it all with compassion, humour, and the kind of dedication that makes the world a better (and furrier) place.

So to our amazing nursing team — thank you for everything you do. 🤍
You truly are the glue that holds this place together!

Drop your love for our vet nurses in the comments below — they deserve it all today (and every day)! 💐🐾💉

👻 🎃 What’s scarier than ghosts? Dental disease! 🦷

This Halloween, while we’re busy dodging spiders, spooky shadows and trick or treating remember….

Bad breath and hidden dental pain can be the real monsters lurking in your pet’s mouth! 😱 🦷

Regular dental checks keep those fangs fresh and your pet smiling (instead of howling!). 🐶🦇🐱

Happy spooky season! 👻💀
