A new study which followed more than 30,000 adults with obesity found that those who sustained a 20-25% total body fat reduction (through bariatric surgery) decreased their likelihood of dying from cancer by up to 48%!

What can we learn from this? 🧐

✅ Excessive body weight creates an inflammatory state in the body which in turn increases the risk of up to 13 different types of cancer including breast, kidney, liver, oesophageal and colorectal.�
✅ While fat cells were initially thought to sit dormant within the body, we now know they are metabolically active. What this means is that fat cells spew inflammatory proteins into the bloodstream (known as cytokines) which in turn have an effect on our hormones and increases inflammation in the body.

✅ A reduction in body weight significantly reduces certain hormones like oestrogen which is linked to the development of breast cancer.

👊 Key message - you don’t have to undergo extreme bariatric surgery to lose weight and reduce your cancer risk. What’s the best exercise to get in shape?

Exercise that’s intense (working at your max capacity or under load) and te secret sauce is getting into the habit of doing it consistently!

It’s week 10, the final week of our training block!

Congratulations to our entire team on a great effort! 🙌🏼 What an achievement!

Results come to those who consistently show up. That’s the hallmark of getting to where you really want. 🙌🏼

2-3 resistance training sessions a week over months, years and decades have dramatic life-changing consequences.

We teach our clients how to train like personal trainers. How to create the correct joint angles, range of motion and how to select the correct weight to overload the muscle to get outstanding results in the way they look, feel and function.

To help our clients stay the course and make it easier to show up we create an environment at Legacy that is truly unique. A new client this week said ‘she found her experience very welcoming and refreshing’ another said she really liked the set up and atmosphere and that it ‘wasn’t intimidating’ as a woman in her forties returning to exercise.

Caitlin has completely embraced gym life here at Legacy and although she doesn’t love early mornings, you will see her at 6am, 4 days a week honouring her commitment to herself of completing 2x Lift and 2x I.C.E sessions each week and showing up to all that is on offer within the transformation challenge.

Exhausted busy executive Mum

Jo had always exercised regulary but when she joined our studio at the end of 2020 something wasn’t right.

She looked in the mirror and didn’t recognise the woman staring back at her.

She generally felt blah: lethargic, bloated & brain fog.

Jo loves life and her executive role. She loves to find solutions to complex problems in her work and travel is a regular part of her job.

With a huge caring heart, she is a people person who is energised by her work & hanging out with her family and friends.

If there’s one thing you don’t want when your day is back to back meetings and making important decisions it’s struggling for energy and brain fog!

Something wasn’t adding up.

So Jo talked to us about what our transformation challenge entailed and decided that now was the time to commit to change. She simply couldn’t sustain the path she was on. Something had to give. But she wasn’t sure what until she got stuck into the work and then things became crystal clear for her.

Some bad habits had crept in which had undermined her energy and her health. Habits that we can get away with in our 20s and 30s but we can’t in our 40s and beyond.

Jo learnt so much from our rapid success formula and as she learned she made some small but powerful tweaks to what she ate and drank each day. This work in combination with the strength work she was already doing in the gym really began to make a positive shift in how she felt.

Life threw her plenty of curve balls but she knew she couldn’t afford to go back to her old habits that had caused the problems. The only way was forwards.

By the end of the year she was feeling a world away from where she had begun, she says:

“I'm really grateful for this year, the transformation journey and everything you have taught me.

I have seen a lot of growth this year and am happier in myself due to that, so thank you!

I'm making better decisions all the time to prioritise myself and my family, it’s still a journey, I haven't nailed it yet but honestly, I've made huge progress!

Thank you!!! I love the Legacy community, you ladies rock!”
