Hi everyone,

I know many people are struggling at the moment with home-schooling kids and just dealing with this crazy time, due to COVID-19. I thought I would provide a list of resources and websites to use to keep your kids entertained and to continue with their school work.

- Twinkl is a website that has many resources for preschool and primary school kids across all areas of learning. Due to Corona virus, they have made their resources free for the time being so make the most of it! (the code for free resources is AUSTRCODE https://www.twinkl.com.au/resources/covid19-school-closures

- SPELD has many phonics books for all levels. Go onto the website and have access to hundreds of different books. You will have to choose which level your child is up. For example if your child is in kindergarten start at set 1 and work your way up. https://www.speld-sa.org.au/services/phonic-books.html

- Little learners love literacy is another great literacy resource. They are offering some free resources at the moment for reading, writing, spelling and hand writing. https://mailchi.mp/learninglogic/professional-learning-spelling-with-sound-swap-2469345

- Go Noodle is a movement website. You can pick different dances and this can entertain your kids (and yourself) for hours. https://family.gonoodle.com/

- Cosmic Kids Yoga is a you tube channel with lots of child friendly yoga activities. https://www.youtube.com/user/CosmicKidsYoga

- Storyline online is a website with animations of stories and people reading them. You can watch it at home or have the book in front of you and follow along. This is a great way to incorporate story time into your day. My favourite is Arnie the Doughnut. https://www.storylineonline.net/library/?search=

- Teachers pay teachers is a great resource website for kids in school. You can search what you would like to work on such as ‘propositions’ ‘pronouns’ and if you click on the free tab on the left hand column you will find some great free resources. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Tips and Tricks for Increasing Receptive Language Skills

Receptive language is the ability to understand and follow directions and is an integral part of language learning. These activities will also help to increase a child’s vocabulary.

- Play ‘Simon says’.
- When reading books, you can ask different questions such as “point to the lion and then to the giraffe”.
- Play ‘Twister’.
- Teach prepositions with toys (in, on, under, next to, between). Line up different toys and have turns telling each other where to put them, for example; “Put the car between the bus and the truck.”
- Play barrier games. You and your child each have a board and cut out pictures. You should have the same board and pictures and have a barrier between you both so that you can’t see the other persons board. You each have turns at telling the other person where to put the pictures. At the end, you compare boards to see how well you asked and followed instructions. The boards should look the same.
- When your child is completing a colouring-in activity you can provide instructions such as “Use pink to colour in the birds wings” “Draw a blue flower at the top of the hill.”

Attached is a free picture colouring scene. If you would like some barrier game PDF's let me know and I can send them through. Let me know how you go!
