At Macintyre Health, we are inspired by those who choose to live in Rural Queensland - the resilience, tenacity and sense of community that is inherent here. We are also inspired by the technology and innovation that has revolutionised Diabetes Management and how easily people are now able to live their day-to-day lives. Today we live at a moment where the majority of people have access to the internet or mobile phones - the raw tools necessary to engage in possibilities such as Telehealth, Insulin Pump Therapy and Continuous/Flash Glucose Monitoring (among others). Macintyre Health also recognises that personal relationships are fundamental to successful Chronic Disease Management and Integration of Care. Often, we find, that someone will care more about their own management when they become aware, and believe, that we deeply do as well. At Macintyre Health, we provide education tailored to each person's needs - both clinical and personal. There is no stock-standard way to manage every person with Diabetes, and a tailored approach is key to success. When you become a patient of Macintyre Health, you will know that you have a partner, an ally, someone who will respect your wishes without judgement. Even if our mission sounds big, it starts small - and it starts in Goondiwindi.

šŸ¬There are so many long-held beliefs about diabetes. Some helpful, some… not so much. Enter: Myth Busting Mondays!

We're taking common myths and breaking them down using evidence-based guidance relevant for Australians living with diabetes.

We’re starting with a big one: ā€œPeople with diabetes can’t eat sugar.ā€

There’s been a lot of discussion lately about weight-loss medications potentially being listed on the PBS, and what that could mean for Australians living with obesity and related conditions.

In a new Veri Health feature, Laura Zimmerman, our Founder and Director of Macintyre Health, shares her perspective.

Laura explains that ā€œEven with narrow eligibility criteria, there’ll certainly be a surge in enquiries with people wanting to know if they’re eligible, what the process is, and what their options are if they’re not eligible.ā€

Her point is simple: this is a moment where patients will need clear guidance, structured follow-up and coordinated care, NOT just information about prescriptions.

If you’d like to better understand what these potential changes could mean, and Laura's thoughts, read the article here:

šŸ‘€ Could this be the fastest pharma patent decision in years?

The Federal Court of Australia has moved at record pace in AstraZeneca’s bid to block competitors from launching generic dapagliflozin (the active ingredient in ForxigaĀ®) a key diabetes treatment. Just 6 business days between hearing and decision, which is unprecedented in pharmaceutical IP litigation.

Why it matters:
- Courts are increasingly sensitive to commercial timelines in life sciences.
- Faster decisions can reshape when cheaper generics hit the market.
- Similar battles are playing out globally as patents and competition collide.

Stay tuned, this case could set a new benchmark for patent dispute timelines in Australia!

šŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗ 🤰 New research has mapped Australia’s gestational diabetes hotspots for the first time, highlighting where rates are consistently higher and where new areas of concern are emerging.

Did you know we offer gestational diabetes support Australia-wide via telehealth, making it easier to access expert care wherever you live? Book an appointment via our website: www.macintyrehealth.com.au

A Monash University study analysing data from more than 1.7 million births identified long-term hotspots in:

• Victoria: South-West Victoria and North Melbourne
• New South Wales: West and South-West Sydney, and South-East NSW
• Queensland: North Brisbane
• Western Australia: South and South-West Perth
• Australian Capital Territory: East and North Canberra

New hotspots appearing after 2018 were found in:
• South Canberra
• North Tasmania
• North Darwin
• South-East Melbourne

With nearly one in five pregnancies in Australia affected by gestational diabetes, the findings reiterate how important timely diagnosis, culturally responsive care and ongoing support to reduce risks for both mother and baby.

To our beautiful community,

We wanted to take the time to say thank you to everyone who openly shared their experience with rural healthcare through our Medicare Rural Inquiry Survey. We asked for your help, and gosh, did you show up.

Your honesty, generosity and willingness to speak up mean more than we can say. Every response adds depth and clarity to the picture of what accessing healthcare really looks like in rural, regional and remote communities. All the challenges, the trade-offs and the resilience people show every day.

This is only the beginning.

Your stories will now be carefully collated and used to inform our response to the Federal Inquiry into rural, regional and remote Medicare access and funding, helping ensure lived experience sits at the centre of future decisions.

We’re incredibly grateful for your trust and your time.

Thank you for adding your voice. It truly matters, and it will help shape what comes next. 🫶

Kate Dunn (Head of Rural and Remote) and Kate Mundy (Credentialled Diabetes Educator based in Toowoomba) work alongside and care for people in rural and regional communities every day. They've seen it all on the ground; the distance, the waiting and the extra mile (or km!) it takes just to get care.

They’ve spent years listening to people’s stories. Now, they’re adding their own voices, and encouraging you to add yours.

If you live rural or regional, what you’ve experienced matters. Your stories don’t disappear: they’re what shape what comes next.

ā° Today is the last day to have your say in the Rural Health Inquiry survey.
It takes less than 5 minutes, and there’s a free recipe eBook at the end to say thanks.

Go on, make your voice count - fill out the survey here: https://buff.ly/XURfTDb
