The 16 Days of Activism May Be Over - But Our Commitment Continues Every Day
Each year, from 25 November to 10 December, communities across the world mark the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. At Robinvale District Health Services (RDHS), we joined this global movement by sharing daily reflections from our staff on what respect means to them and how everyday actions can help build safer, more equal communities.
Over the 16 days, our team of students, clinicians, support staff, managers and leaders - spoke about consent, equality, child safety, stereotypes, teamwork, cultural respect, the importance of being heard, and the power of calling out harmful behaviors. Although each message was unique, they all carried out a shared theme: respect is at the heart of preventing violence.
As a health organisation, we see first-hand the impact that gender inequality and violence can have on individuals, families, and communities. That is why our commitment does not start on Day 1, and it does not end on Day 16. Respect, safety and support are values we practice every day, in every service we provide.
While the awareness campaign has officially ended for 2025, the work of prevention, and the importance of community conversations, continues throughout the year. We encourage everyone in our community to keep reflecting on what respect looks like in daily life: in our homes, workplaces, sporting clubs, schools, and online spaces.
