Today, we recognise and celebrate the 5.5 million Australians with disability. That’s 1 in 5 people in our communities.

𝘼𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙮:
• 15% of people aged 0–64 have disability
• 52% of people aged 65+ have disability
• 7.9% of Australians live with a profound or severe disability
• 1 in 10 people with disability have experienced discrimination
𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘦: 𝘈𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘯 𝘉𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘶 𝘰𝘧 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘴, 2022

International Day of People with Disability is an opportunity to 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, and to champion a more inclusive Australia where 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗲, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗱.

Before this month's 𝟭𝟲 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗩𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 campaign officially began, our team joined the Rockhampton community at Zonta Club of Rockhampton's ‘𝙎𝙖𝙮 𝙉𝙤 𝙩𝙤 𝙑𝙞𝙤𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝘼𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩 𝙒𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣’ breakfast event.

The morning focused on courage and collective responsibility, with our Domestic and Family Violence Services team sharing 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 on the work happening 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝘆 to prevent and respond to domestic and family violence across Central Queensland.

🧡 Today is the 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗩𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻.

This global day shines a light on the 𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 in our homes, workplaces, communities, and online spaces. It signals that violence is 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 acceptable, 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 inevitable, and 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 preventable.

Today, and every day, we stand with women and communities calling for safety, respect, and a future free from violence.

DV Safe Phone collects, repurposes, and gifts mobile phones to victim survivors, providing safe phones that can be 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁.

❓Ever wondered what goes in to delivering 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻-𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲?

For us, it begins with a team committed to 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, and 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.

Recently, members of our Yeppoon and Rockhampton Community Care teams came together for a full-day workshop delivered by our 𝘿𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙖 𝙏𝙤𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 team, which focused on supporting people living with dementia.

𝗠𝗲𝗹𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝘂𝗽 𝗳𝘂𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗴 🏇

Our Bundaberg social group recently gathered to celebrate 'the race that stops the nation', enjoying trivia, raffles, and a delicious three-course buffet lunch.

The competition was fierce off the track too, with 𝗥𝗶𝘁𝗮 taking out 𝘍𝘢𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘍𝘪𝘦𝘭𝘥 in her stunning custom-made peacock feather hat, while 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗱 dazzled in a vibrant Hawaiian shirt that turned just as many heads as the race itself. 🌺

While not everyone picked a winner on the track, everyone went home with a winning feeling. 💙
