🌊 Building Skills & Confidence Through Cast Netting 🐟

Our ParkSyde team loves to learn right alongside our friends! Recently, we started to learn how to use a cast net with one of our friends and last week was a success! A first catch!

Learning cast netting isn’t just about fishing. It’s about:
✅ Developing coordination and motor skills
✅ Building patience and focus
✅ Strengthening problem-solving abilities
✅ Connecting with nature
✅ Boosting confidence through trying something new

With guidance, encouragement, and hands-on support, our friend was able to practice new techniques, gain independence, and enjoy the sense of achievement that comes from learning a practical outdoor skill.

Activities like this highlight how meaningful community-based learning experiences can empower individuals, promote wellbeing, and create lasting memories.

Heading to Timezone isn’t just about fun — it’s packed with benefits too! 🎮✨

Arcade outings help build social skills, communication, and confidence in a relaxed, community setting.

Games encourage hand–eye coordination, problem-solving, turn taking and even everyday living skills when navigating the venue and purchasing tokens or prizes.

Most importantly, it supports greater community participation and independence!

Plus, celebrating a high score together is a great way to strengthen positive relationships and boost self-esteem! 🏆

ParkSyde supports community access activities like exploring local parks, beaches, and fishing spots around Rockhampton and surrounding areas, helping participants stay active, connected, and engaged in their community.

Therapy disguised as FUN!

Making playdough is such a fun sensory activity with so many benefits!

🌈 Fine Motor Skill Development
Rolling, squeezing, pinching and cutting playdough helps strengthen hand and finger muscles. This supports goals around handwriting, self-care tasks (like buttons and zips), and everyday independence.

🧠 Cognitive & Problem-Solving Skills
Following a recipe to make the playdough encourages sequencing, measuring, turn-taking, and following instructions. Creating shapes and objects builds creativity, planning skills, and flexible thinking.

💬 Communication & Social Skills
Playdough invites conversation! Whether describing colours and textures, requesting tools, or engaging in imaginative play, it supports expressive and receptive communication goals.

Did you know Ooblek is a non-Newtonian fluid, which acts as both liquid and solid depending on pressure?🤯

This fun, captivating hands on experience was a hit supporting developmental, sensory, motor, coordination, social/emotional skills AND sneaking in some learning too!

With just cornflour, water and a splash of colour, you'll have a quick and easy activity that is perfect for those that like a bit of messy play!😆

🚗🛣️ Mini Motorways in Action! 🛣️🚗

One of our recent activities involved playing Mini Motorways! This engaging strategy game gave us the chance to build and practise important skills in a relaxed, enjoyable way.

Starting 2026 with a special moment while supporting our friends, we spotted a Tawny Frogmouth—or maybe three—resting in a tree at the top of Mt Archer, Rockhampton.
Practising the expert-level hide tactic: “If I close my eyes, they can’t see me!” 😄
