SD Therapeutic Massage I provide deep tissue/remedial, relaxation, sports & pregnancy massage. This helps relieve stress, increases circulation and decreases muscle tension.

Massage is important for general health and a great way to brighten your mood. Book by appointment only. Hi my name is Shontelle. I have been doing massage for more than 10 years. I love helping people, which is why I took up this profession. I provide - remedial, relaxation, sports and pregnancy massage. I’ve also been trained in dry needling since March 2021, so if this is something you need let me know. This is great for conditions like carpal tunnel syndrome and plantar fasciitis. I am flexible with my hours, but tend to work around school and husbands hours.

Do you have a sore neck or shoulders?

There is a large superficial kite-shaped muscle that extends from the base of the skull down to the middle of the back, covering the neck and shoulders.

This muscle is called the Trapezius (Traps).

Trapezius pain can be caused by poor posture, overuse activities (heavy lifting or desk work), muscle strain or stress. This can cause the muscle to tense up or spasm.

🌟The trigger points within the muscle (SEE PIC) can cause referred pain, which is a pain felt in different areas of the body such as headaches or jaw pain.

If you think your traps are tight give these trigger points a go! Yes it hurts when these are pressed on but know that this pain is essential for the healing to start within the muscle.

Let’s think about your butt muscles, if these muscles are tight they need to be released!!

YES it hurts but you’ll thank me later 😉.

Releasing the glutes can help improve overall mobility and athletic performance, reduce the risk of injury, and prevent issues like tight hamstrings that can arise from the glutes not firing correctly.

The glutes are strong, powerful muscles which keep us upwards and help us walk and run. Overall they push us forward, stabilise the hip and help us balance.

🌸Do you do a lot of sitting? If so take breaks to stretch your glutes to couteract the effects of prolonged inactivity.
🌸After exercise it’s important to stretch after a workout to help prevent stiffness and soreness.

If you’re sore and have pain - MASSAGE is the key! Relax your glutes through stretching and using tools like spikey balls.

Time passes… most people don’t think about their feet until pain arises. Is this YOU??

There are lots of muscles within the foot known as intrinsic muscles - these muscles control fine motor, help with arch support and maintain the foot’s structure. The extrinsic muscles originate in the lower leg (calf and shin muscles) and insert into the foot. These muscles provide power for large movements and help the foot’s structure move in all directions (up, down and side to side).

Massage is not just for luxury, it helps with pain associated with plantar fasciitis and overuse. Tight calf muscles can also cause pain to develop within the Achilles tendon and the foot.

Let’s talk about the Soleus Muscle - as a trail runner, this muscle gets sore and lets me know it needs to be massaged and strengthened, especially after events.

The Soleus is a wide, flat, deep muscle that originates below the knee and runs to the heel, connecting to the Achilles tendon. It lies underneath the gastrocnemius muscle.

During trail running the Soleus muscle provides power to move forward and up-hill as you push off your toes. It stabilises the lower leg (Tibia - shin bone) which is crucial for handling uneven terrain. The Soleus is made up of many slow-twitch muscle fibres which helps it resist fatigue. This is amazing for anyone doing endurance activities like trail running.

It’s so important to keep this muscle strong 💪🏻 to help reduce the risk of injury and improve your running mechanics.

The Soleus is called the “second heart” ♥️
This muscle provides a pumping action designed to recirculate deoxygenated blood from the legs back to the heart!
